32nm and 28nm Just around the bend!

Nice!
It seems like AMD and Intel just keep going back and forth on who can make their chips smaller and faster. I like this good competition, it spurs innovation.

Yup, i7s are planning to go to 32nm here in Oregon, though thats not for sure.

One day they'll be 1nm, give it 10 years I say.

Dang... my q6600 is still at 65nm ><

And yet still one of the best chips on the market if your not afraid to OC (anyone running anything at stock these days needs a good slap )

E8400/8500 and Q6600 are still the best bang for buck chips for gaming on the market.

Only problem is my motherboard won't let me overclock it, yeah...

Does 2.4ghz to 3ghz make that big of a difference (fps wise)? I guess I could do a pad mod.

No, it won't effect gaming much. However you will see noticeable increases in audio/video encoding, etc.

Yes and no, most current games don't utilize the processor to the point where 600mhz would give you a huge increase in FPS (there are a few exceptions).

To give you an idea tho, taking my E8500 from 3.16ghz to 4ghz is worth about 10 FPS in TF2. Considering were already talking well over 100FPS on average, 10 more is hardly worth it.

Exceptions however are always present, a game such as GTA4 or Crysis will see more significant gains (5-10 FPS when you average 40 or so is much more significant a boost).

My HD 4770 is 40nm, my question is. What after happens when it gets 1nm? 0_o

The GPU/CPUs create mini black holes so we have to have a new type of cooling system that stops these black holes.

:bored:

ahh yea...

My laptop runs a 3.06Ghz P4HT.

Not too bad for a desktop replacement on a budget about 4 years ago.

Too bad it just sits around now. Probably couldn't sell it for a dime.

does it happen to have a parallel port? if it does... im interested ^^ (doing microprocessor programming and it needs parallel port)

Pretty soon we will hit a limit because we are exiting the realm of classical physics and entering quantum physics. The rules will be completely different and we will have to think outside the box in order to improve cpu's

Here is an article that describes some of the problems presented by quantum physics:

It will be interesting to see what happens when those things come out.
