Useful Scripts? (e.g. auto-reload)

I've read about some scripts people use to do stuff like automatically reload your weapon. Are these considered cheating? If not, do we host any of them anywhere?

If these kinds of scripts are ok, the I might start using them (I mean they're ok in the MLG circuit aren't they?) If you look on wikipedia, you can find various scripts. Be careful though, the scripts may or may not include auto aim, I haven't looked into it...in fact, I might do that right now then.

EDIT: My bad, I meant to say the TF2 wiki page, not wikipedia. I looked on there by mistake and found nothing >.>

Also, with the new hats being totally awesome, do we have an idle server to use?

No, we don't have any idle servers.

I'm pretty sure you can't make any auto-aim script just by editing the text in those cfg files. You would have to get some kind of mod or program for that.

Personally I don't like to use scripts because it makes you lazy. Plus some of the scripts, like auto-pistol scripts are pretty lame.. basically hold down m1 and your pistol fires really fast because there is no cool down on the pistol.

But you can pretty much find these scripts anywere, just look.

I used to run quick disguise scripts when I was first starting off, but I dont use any scripts now. I used them to get used to spy and once I had it down, there was no need to use them any more. Mainly what the script was entailed was the movement keys, w,a,d,s had a diff disguise on it and when I would hold the shift key down and press one of those keys it would change my disguise and when I would let shift go, it the keys would let me move in those directions again. Was helpful when I would get a kill cloak run away and change disguise quickly then rinse and repeat. Dont need any scripts with any classes now.

I consider all scripts cheating essentially- just my opinion

----

if you are good you do not need scripts and should not need their usage, it is a way to improve your condition against other players essentially

scripts are for cheaters.... again... in my opinion

Why would you need a script for auto-reloading? I don't understand what's so hard about just pressing R, not to mention that some weapons, like Pistol and FAN, can't fire while reloading so it leaves you extremely vulnerable.

Also, the auto-pistol script doesn't work anymore since the Sniper/Spy update (as far as I can understand it).

Nope, it still works. They just added a cvar for the servers you can turn on that makes the script not work, so most servers it still works.

I agree with you Opeth!

You aren't alone in that opinion, don't worry.

And why do you think you need an auto-reload script anyway? Last time I check the game already does this by clicking the mouse when you're empty anyway. If anything you're losing time by having to hit the keybind, when your finger is already on the mouse button.

The new update kind of broke the auto-pistol script, but it was never really all that helpful tbh. The auto-reload script is very helpful in competitive play. You don't have to worry about reloading, just killing important people. Honestly what's wrong with an auto-reload script? It doesn't improve your game play, it just reloads the weapon, YOU are the one who has to shoot it. It's also nice to have a bind to respawn you back to the natural resupply, just in case you get piped in on Well or Blands on the secondary resupply. The only script i mainly use is the auto-reload, because it's just really helpful in my opinion.

While that is your opinion and I respect that- I, a script user, would like to point out that everyone has the opportunity to use a script. I was given the developer console, and I plan on using it to the fullest of my advantage. Everyone can do the same. Scripts make the game easier, and if, I had not intended on using scripts I would not have bought a G15 or another programmable keyboard.

Also, half of the people posted here are missing the point. The attention spans must be low here, as talking about an auto-reload script was not what was intended to be discussed. He was just using this as an example. It's not the only script out there, and he wasn't asking for opinions on a auto-reload script. He was asking if scripts were allowed, and in short, yes they are.

Just to clarify - a script is not a hack. It is a long console command. Auto-Aiming or "aimbotting" cannot be achieved by typing in a console command. You don't download anything either. You simply copy and paste.

All major TF2 tournaments ban scripts. They aren't allowed, period. If they are, a tournament admin would have to clear you (highly unlikely).

I'm talking about in the spirit of competition, if you will. It's not as if you will get vac-banned for scripting. I consider it the same way I consider "warping" across levels in speed runs of old games like Mario, Megaman, etc. by taking advantage of glitches in the game (im not talking about skipping levels from a tube or w/e, but actual game glitches with pausing, etc. to skip around and speed the run up, etc.)

---- here's an example of a script, which I consider blatant console abuse
------ Taken from Demo Wiki

I've flipped the binds around a little to better fit the demoman and added a "rapid detonation"

In lieu of the detonation bind; when you hold down the key it's bound to, it will quickly detonate all the stickies it can, allowing you to detonate stickies the instant they're fully deployed. If you hold it at the same time as using the rapid deployment mode for stickies, this can do some damage.

-----this script blows up your sticky at the best possible time essentially, without having to worry about actually blowing them up yourself, if you are telling me this was the way the game was intended, you're kidding yourself

It's just a way to have actions performed for you (the demoman script I posted is beyond ridiculous; it takes absolutely no skill to use and have seen people have their scores jump up tremendously because of it, and I have called people out before for using it as just bad players)

It's cheating. There's a difference between using the console and abusing it
