Running around ill have 140ish FPS then when I get into combat it can drop into the 40s and even down to 30s, usually hovering around 50. Some of the worst drops is when im playing blackmesa and go down to A with everyone fighting I can stay in the 30s for a pretty long time till the action slows down. I thought I used to get a lot more fps during combat before the scout update or atleast a few months ago, not sure though.

Just seeing what everyone else was getting with close to similar speccs, because i've seen people who said they were getting 100 fps where i was getting 40 when we have similar speccs.

Mine

Q6600 Stock Speed(2.4ghz)
8800 GTS 512 @ 769/972
3Gigs Ram

Everything maxed
1400x1050
Multicore on- if i kept it off it would drop even lower

Have my newest video drivers/chipset drivers.

Every other game I play the FPS is smooth as butter crysis etc.

My FPS can kill me sometimes. I've tried lowering graphics, but it only helps a little. Maybe 5 Fps at the most. Just something we have to deal with =(. It horrible when your sniping.

Whoa how do you activate multi-core?
Is it on by default?
And sharpe, when you're scoped your FPS should rise because you can't see as much lowing the need to load models etc ^^
So sniping should be easier then spraying as a pyro of heavy o;

Eh, tf2 is just optimized weird. My friend on a much worse computer than me gets a lot better fps than most people. Was just wondering if everyone got the same fps drop, I swear a few months ago I could hold 70 fps in heavy combat.. Stevon, multicore rendering is turned on in the advanced graphics options or putting mat_qeue_mode -1 in console; both do the same thing.

My rig...

Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz
8800GT 512MB @ stock speeds.(185.85 drivers)
3GB's DDR2 @ 800Mhz

I play at all max settings, 1680x1050, with multicore rendering enabled.

My FPS never drops below 60 unless I'm running a lot of background stuff.

There you go, close off all your little applications in your tray, they use system resources too.

I keep multi-core rendering off because it just makes the game so unstable its not funny, I'll lose 30 FPS and be able to play the game without crashes.

Mine hovers around there, then when I get into a big fight the fps just tanks.

I just realized my ram is running @ 400 mhz but I don't think that would make that much of a difference between your steady 60 fps and my .. dropping down to 30s. would it?

Also, my PSU is only 350W and i've had it for 2 years.

wow im surprised that psu can run that card TBH

Yeah, I ran a PSU calculator and its just over 350w for underload so im REALLY pushing it, plus adding 2 years of time I think it might be time for me to get a new PSU. Could be slowly killing my performance. Freakin is running a much better/stronger PSU than mine, mines just a piece of junk; didnt have any more money to buy a better PSU at the time and just haven't thought about it till now. Plus the amps on my 12v rail are barely covering what I need, so I got lucky.

Rarely do I drop below 50 but I hover around 60 even in Combat.

1280*1024
Antistropic 8x/ AA 16x
Texture/ High
Model/ High
No multi core rendering
Water reflect /all
Wait for 3d sync / enabled

7900GTX/AMD 64FX-57
4GBS DDR2
All stock speeds.

Alpha Dog Edition 8800GT 512MB
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66ghz (default)
2 Gigs of Corsair RAM

*Texture and graphics are all at high*
*Anti Aliasing None*
*Multi core rendering on*
*1280 x 1024*

Idle in spawn: 250FPS Average
Dustbowl small battle: 130-150FPS average
Dustbowl large battle: 50-90FPS average (no lower than 50!)
Blackmesa capture point A at any time: 40-60FPS (This is mostly due to all the smoke/fog)

Your FPS is normal.

not to mention that little 350 watter has enough amps to run that puppy? i am super surprised. hell my 550 only has 25 amps (tho it is like a year and half old also)

Yeah, it has 26Amps on it which is pretty awesome for a 350. Even if it isn't killing my fps I still need to buy a new PSU since im going to be buying a new gpu soon anyway.

ya but i'd say the max you'd ever need is like 750w unless you're 3x SLI/crossfire, or just want bragging rights on your crazy computer build or something. not doing SLI? hell any 550-650 with enough amps should be fine, to save yourself a buck

Yeah, i was going to pick up a 750W. My CPU Is fine, I just need a new GPU. Will probably wait for the nvidia 300 series or go pick up a 260 or 275.
