How 2 Soldier. KuNai's way.

Would you want KuNai to teach you the ways of the Soldier?

Sure, I'll go.

I need to find a way to kill those darn rocket deflecting pyros

It doesn't matter who the pyro is or what he is using. Pyro is hands down the easiest class to beat 1v1 with a soldier.

I'm not saying I won't get got by a good pyro every now and again, but more often than not, he's going down.

Here's the basics (keep in mind this is only against pyros who know how to effectively use the airblast).

At medium to long range, use your shotgun. Pretty simple, and they can't deflect your bullets. There is also the option of playing mindgames and trying to time rockets to where he won't expect it, but this is much harder. For a beginner, I would just recommend sticking with the shotgun.

From this point, the pyro will have 3 options.

1. Retreat - if he does this, keep blasting away. Don't follow him too far though because he could be baiting/luring. And, only bring out the rocket launcher if he is retreating with his back turned to you.

2. Continue on his current path with the flamethrower still out - if he does this, then he is closing in pretty good by this point. Take out your rocket launcher and rocket jump backwards. Bring out the shotgun and keep pegging away.

3. Take out his shotgun/flaregun - As soon as you see him switch, break out the rocket launcher IMMEDIATELY. You will have enough time to fire 1 rocket before he can switch back to the flamethrower. Fire 1 then rocket jump back some more.

That's really all there is to it. Sure, there are many more strategies that you will see others use, but this is effective for all situations. Also, it is very basic, and these are all things you can do now without learning the mindgames.

Just my 2 cents....

I think everyone has their own ways of dealing with certain situations. This is a guide for the way Kunai plays soldier. My guide to killing a pyro: a pyro always runs at you. Shoot a rocket at his feet and then shoot him again with a shotgun or rocket (or shovel). It's simple but there's more to it than that. I know Kunai's a better soldier than me so I'll most definitely be attending if he throws a class. There's always room for improvement.

Good on you for doing this Kunai. Soldier is one of my weakest classes and I look forward to learning from one of the best...or at least one who kills me A LOT everytime I step into the same server.

:)

I never knew you could shoot a shovel thanks for that advice = )

59 "Yes" votes aren't enough? :(

More than enough. After Wednesday, I will start writing a comprehensive guide on just about everything. Airshooting, double rocket jumping, rocket jumping's uses besides gaining inaccessible areas, how to use each and every weapon, and how they're effective and ineffective against certain classes, most noticeably Pyro. Also, how to be aware, setting up your personal preferences such as mouse sensitivity, etc.

Also, personal movement style (similar to fighting styles to boxers) and more.

One thing though, how am I going to actually pull off teaching players in a server?

Dammit Kunai, I voted before I read the bold in your post. And I voted No because I didn't read the bold in your post. Count me as a yes.

Soldier is one of my main classes so I feel like I can play Soldier pretty well, but last time I played was just before the Scout update was released. So, I don't know strategy/tactics behind beating the new unlockables.

/Signs up to be target practise

Maybe you can do it on the fun server?

tbh if you can put out a guide, that would be extremely helpful in itselfs. acctually showing us how to do it would just be like a bonus.

although i'd really like some one on one training on how to do air shots, that the one area i feel im lacking in.

i have waited do long for this moment :P. Mind u it is hard to play soldier with high ping :(

You wouldn't have voted "no" in the first place if you knew how I play Soldier. Most people who voted "no" think I'm a bad Soldier, and I can assure you I am not. ;D

But you and other people will learn a thing or two, and this won't just be the basic stuff. I will have to teach the basics as well, because without them, there's no possible way to teach the advanced stuff.

Kunai is digging his own grave if you ask me if you reveal all your secrets ;)

my demoman addition to Ballzacs thread was also only basic information

Supertrooper im a decent solider and i can help you with airshoting or you could download the map tr_rocket_shooting and put it on your own server and play it. It really helps with airshotting
