He suddenly stopped messaging me and probably moved on to his next victim. Just a warning to watch out everyone, I somewhat played around with this guy and found the convo somewhat funny :P

edit: here is what the fake steam site looked like:

As you can see, it is a very close replica to the actual site. And, whenever you click any of the links on the page, it redirects to the corresponding page on the real site (steampowered.com). So apparently, you must log in that exact page for them to get your login info. Very interesting...
Also, once i logged in (with made up info of course), it redirected me to the real site, and i was not logged in...

Im glad you didnt enter your info in, but going onto these hijack sites just to look at it is dangerous. I just ignore them.

Steal your account and sell them I suppose. Although, Im sure with all the time they spend on this, that they could make a lot more from just a normal job haha

Well, alot of people are not really informed on scambots. Hell, a gamer could just have a steam account for casual gaming. They don't have communities like eGO that warns them about this type of stuff. So these jackers like to prey on the weak.

i just replaced www. with preview. to show me the actual url that tinyurl was redirecting to. I saw that it was not steampowered.com, but went to it anyways just to check it out haha ;P
 
Wow he's stupid because if valve did have a demo for Left 4 Dead 2 then it would be available through steam.
 
Yea... They try to get you excited over something, like a game, so you let your emotions take charge. you are then so excited that you will log in to download this new game, because you aren't thinking logically :P
 
Lol i did that once (i got somones account like that) well it was a fine day i was quite bored and i rememberd someone doing it to me so i was like ill try it well it was the funniest thing of my LIFE! (before any advisers want to ban me) so my brother has a steam account and i changed my name to Steam Administrator i messaged him and said Hello sir, we need to verify your steam account so can you please type your password and steam name into the chat like this
steam-name/password.

He responds ohh whats it for a new steam thing!! and i said
yes....(with the ....)
he said well here you go (typed it out and gave it to me)
i yell from the next room COULD YOU BE ANY STUPIDER?!
He said what?!
i typed in the steam chat Idiot!
and it ended with a black and blue arm and leg

Yup, thats the new phishing site. Only log in if you go to the actual steam site yourself.

I had my hand poised over the big red "KILL" button i had installed on my keyboard....
then i moved it over the the blue "LOL" button instead.
