FaN has actually recieved a 12.5% damage increase. Not 10%.

ok, so i finally went though that entire first post while i had a brain that wasn't half asleep. and it appears what you did was calculater the damage with respect of the previous damage it was doing. what i think steam meant when it said 10 was the difference between what is did before and what is does now, being consistent with your example that would be 90-80=10.

but eitherway, all it does is make the scout more annoying than they were before. :(

It's actually a viable weapon.

It's pretty bad still, if you ask me. Top scouts will still use the scattergun in competitive play, since there is no hope for this weapon comp play. The 6 shells with the scattergun are easier to keep reloaded, and you don't have to worry about the knock back when double jumping.

Scattergun is still king of meatshot 8)

Thing is, we're talking about pub play. :P

Right. Not to mention most people have to stand still to aim with the FAN anyways, because when they jump they end up falling down like a kid without training wheels.

Not exactly, when I use the FAN, I don't jump, unless I finish firing, it just takes an adjustment to your playing style.

No, because it says they increased the damage by 10%. This is technically not true. They lowered the penalty by 10%.

If they had increased the damage by 10%, then it would be 100-20=80%+10%=88%.
They buffed the damage to 90 (-10%). 90 - 80 = 10, and 10 is 1/8 or 12.5% of 80.

No wonder the scout is now super annoying. But you scouts don't think that your faster than me. This past weekend I was taking scouts down left and right with my saw.

i get what your saying, but what im getting at is steam mispoke. like what they said isn't what they meant. unless they've released something saying it acctually is 12.5 percent now.

They said they increased the damage by 10%. Which they didn't. They reduced the damage penalty by 10%. Slight difference.

In comp play, Scattergun beats it hands down because of the speed of adaptability necessary.

In pub, though, it's a toss-up, especially considering that larger servers tend to have more opportunities for flanking, which the FAN is absurdly good at.

And you double jump while reloading, not firing.

I still like FaN better, I like the how it pushes the player back. Say a pyro is after you and you have the FaN you can just blow the pyro back when they a trying to light you on fire. That would be wasting ammo while you get the kill.

meh i use the scattergun and its not very hard to kill another scout who is using the FaN

You don't think these pro's who get paid to play can't adapt to the FAN in a couple of hours?

I just wanted to point out on my quote..

..That I was saying most pubs are horrible with the FAN, let alone scout. The FAN is still bad in my eyes, like ShoddyMink says:

..It's simply easier to use and if you know what you're doing you can take out any scout regardless of what weapon he is using. The FAN will never be better than the scattergun, and I'm sticking with that.

Did you read my post? Speed of adaptability, as in you can fire while reloading.

And I addressed the jumping by saying that people that adapted to the FAN jump between reloads.

There are very few things making the Scattergun actually better than the FAN except its adaptability. If you're playing on a pub server, the adaptability is not as necessary, so the FAN is simply a better gun there. On the other hand, in comp play, you need to react quickly and attack head-on much more often, so the original Scattergun is pretty much required because the reload time pause is unacceptable.

And didn't you just consider that maybe since most pub scouts suck and that ShoddyMink may be good that maybe ShoddyMink is just killing sucky Scouts so it wouldn't matter what type of gun they are using? Or that maybe he's bragging? Or maybe he's lying? It's certainly not evidence of anything. And a FAN that hits every time really throws people's aims off.

Valve really need to chance the FaN's damage back to what it was originally. I was getting owned by scouts loads today, even as the Heavy :/

So true; just today on gravelpit, the whole defending team went scout and we never won just because of how strong the FaN was. Even if we tried to uber we would still not have killed all of them. Then the remaining players would just kill us instead.

if you practice with the fan and make it a part of your jumps instead of thinkin of it as a hinderance (<--not sure if that's a word) then it is quite fun. i just recently started using the regular bat to get my double jump and i've been using the fan to aid in my jumps and it helps a lot. i just adapted to it in my jumps since i used it for my double jumps instead of a double jump itself.
