Alright people, here's the scoop.

If you all don't remember (or weren't in eGO), we had an arena server in...the summer of 2008 to October'ish? Anyways, we lost it due to inactivity and low player numbers.

Well that's not going to happen again.

If you haven't had the chance to try out arena mode because all you play is eGO servers - like most of us - then now is the time! Hop in the server and give it a try. You never know, you might find you like it. Some of us are still trapped in our 'one map' cage. "I only like 2Fort!" "We have a Dustbowl server?" These are all terrible things to say!

Now, I'm going to inform you of what your new favorite thing to do while you sleep is. It's called this fascinating world of seeding. Now you, YES YOU, can be a seeder! All you have to do is slap on an tag inbetween your rank and your name, like so:

Well what the hell is seeding you ask? Seeding is the art of starting up a server. I'm sure many of you have seen the forum achievement titled "Server Starter/Idler." These are people who dedicate every moment they're not on the computer to getting servers started so other people can enjoy nice, full eGO servers. Also, quick note to admins: If you see a member with the tag, feel free to kick them or 'check afk' them if the server is full.


Here's some links to some helpful threads related to seeding:

For non-admins:

Sometimes half the servers are at the 1-4 player level, moping about.

Assuming all other things being equal, which server is it more beneficial to log onto: a server with 1 player moping about, a server with 2 players dualing, a server crowded with 3 players, etc. I'm looking for total impact (server ranking and ability to draw more pubs to that server.)

Dustbowl 4/32
Custom Maps 4/32
Goldrush 5/32

and you follow my previous point, you'd probably join/seed Goldrush. However, between the two servers, Dustbowl is ranked 22nd while Goldrush is ranked 204th. Also, they are nearly equally filled. Faced with this scenario, I'd join the server with a higher rank.

You're also better off seeding in a server that has players actually attempting to play on it. If there's no game going, players won't stay for longer than 30 seconds.

Exactly what I was going to say. If possible, I join a server with some members already playing. Speccing a server with no one playing helps, but not nearly as much as speccing one with a couple people playing.

I'm in arena all the time, and I was playing latenight and we had like maybe 6-8ish people. Could use these seeders so we dont lose this awesome server, it's so much fun. If you haven't played it check it out it grows on you.

I just want to add - if you have a decent (powerful enough) computer, you can run TF2 in windowed to seed and still do other stuff. I do this and it doesn't affect my computer's performance at all that I can tell. I just takes a few seconds when you go back in to the game for it to respond the first time.

So.... seed even when you are using you computer!!!

For awhile, it seemed like the server was pretty much rotating between Watchtower, Nucleus and Sawmill. Thankfully, now you can only vote for maps that haven't been recently played, so the problem shouldn't be as bad as it has been.

It's not that I don't like the newer maps, but I think I prefer the original arena maps, and these newer ones have been getting overplayed.

i re-joined ego for the arena, then it backstabbed me, it closed. and so ive never played on ego until that time. if this is true ill try it, but ive already got a server i like and they wont close, they never did, time to prove that your not just about fame and actully care about us. always with your were ranked 20th! who cares? i care about the people playing the server and good atmosphere. please dont let the popularity go to your heads.
