Whenever I go to use the pyro, I try to air compression blast the projectiles, but I always end up still getting hit.

Although I sometimes succesfully airblast the projectile, any tips on how to time them properly?

Sounds to me like you're blasting too late if you are still getting hit.

Try doing it a tad earlier.

When rockets and regular demo nades are blasted properly you won't get hit.

It definitely is a knack thing and takes a few goes to get it right.

I suggest Pyro Dodgeball if you've not yet tried it.

Not only will you learn how to do this very, VERY, well... but it's fun as heck!

it depends on how close you are to the target.
If you are only a few feet away then you basically have to use your gut to deflect the rockets. Wait a second or two after he sees you and click, sometimes it works!
as for longer range I would advise trying to deflect it at different times and find one that feels comfortable for you and use that. As for aiming the rocket just put your crosshairs on your target and if the rocket is in your blast range it will go to that person/building.

Have fun pwning people!

It can definitely be tricky - like retribution said, if you're closer to an enemy it gets almost impossible. You just have to guess right. Farther away you just gotta time it. I usually click a little sooner than it seems like you need to. I'm not sure if thats just some lag somewhere or what, but thats what works for me.

Retribution and Whohitme is right about if your closer to an enemy but when you're far away you have to time it right. When the projectile (ex. Rocket, Sticky) you want to try and blast it before it even reaches your gun. Remember the Pyro's weapon is longer than the Pyro themselves. What I mean is that, since your gun is longer, your air compression blast has a longer range. So you can blast like 2-4 seconds before it reaches you.

Practice, practice, practice. It's the only way. Also, I'm not sure if it's just me, but I find that increasing the FOV setting helps quite a bit.

i'd say it's one of the hardest things to master in TF2, but incrediable effective and you'll love using it. I'm just starting to master it now and i can't really see the advantage of the backburner any more

I'll second iGreen on his comment about the Backburner.

I <3 CB.

In the times that I had a great chance to use the Backburner and get 4-5 baddies it was just as efficient to CB those baddies into the open for my team mates.

Sure I don't get the points but you are absolutely an unspoken hero for your team if you can CB enemy ubers, someone off the cliff, clear stickies, or save an engineers buildings from some scumbag soldier who's 500ft away and out of range.

Sometimes it's just fun to do.

i find you have to do it a bit earlier that you would think it kinda work more like a shield that deflects it more than just launching it back

Timing, timing, timing. Practice, practice, practice.

Try using it a little earlier.

Usually you have to do it in closer range, right as they pull the trigger you hit your airblast so it goes right back in there face. Most people once they spot you have a 1 second delay before they pull the trigger, so try to time it in your head and just wait for the right time. Eventually it'll be just natural. Also, don't waste ammo trying to reflect rockets going at your feet.

Make your own server and practice. Put a bot in the server and put the bot so that it mimics you. Then you go far back, shoot a little fire, then you compression blast to shoot it back. It worked for me!:)

I'm with Thereven on this one, just practice and you'll get it. It takes time to master it, and it is really effective once you do!

There's a map that frisky dingo posted a little while ago. It's called tr_walkway. It has a option where you can have demomen and soldiers come at you shooting and you try to airblast it back. Take a look, it'll prolly help.

1 way is to get a freind who is also a pyro on the other team and air blast flares back and forth to each other with flares you get the aiming and the timing

Yes, run forwards and jump over it, while deflecting it into the ground beneath you for a massive rocketjump. You take almost 50% of your health away including fall damage, although if you don't go up, but more forwards, you take about 50 damage.

It is shocking to see, and theoretically (very rare to happen) the soldier will watch you in awe, try and shoot another rocket at you, and being higher in the air, you can easily deflect back down at his feet. Alternatively, steer yourself in midair to land on top of him and MEL?E for the absolute favourite kill you will ever have! Good luck, I've done it twice in a real game (it really isn't the sort of thing you should be aiming to do), and one of them I just landed closer to the guy with less health than before. So the tactical value is limited. Othertime I got the mel?e kill, which is why fireaxe is better than axtinguisher.

That would be awesome to see. Now that's a tf2 moment. Do you happen to have a video of it?
