Well, i got my computer parts in and built my system yesterday.

  • Case - Antec Twelve Hundred Black Steel ATX Full Tower Computer
  • PSU - Antec CP-850 850W Continuous Power CPX SLI Certified
  • AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb 3.0GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Black Edition
  • ASUS M4N82 Deluxe AM3/AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA nForce 980a SLI AMD Motherboard
  • G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit
  • Rosewill RCX-Z5 92mm Two Ball Bearing / FDBB CPU Cooler
  • EVGA 896-P3-1170-AR GeForce GTX 275 896MB
  • 300G Velociraptor
  • WD terabyte drive (32M cache, 7200 rpm)
  • LG Black SATA 22X CD/ DVD Burner

Thoughts...

I really like this case. It's a full tower. It has 3 fans in the front, 2 in the back, and a HUGE one on top. It has slots for 2 more fans, one being a side mount, and also a mount "next" to where the video cards would be, so you can put a fan blowing along the cards. Pretty cool. The case also made cable management very easy, by putting plenty of slots in the back panel, to snake cables in and out..

I'm glad i went with a PSU that is made by the same company as the case. It goes very nicely with it. I like how the PSU fan intake is from the INSIDE of the case. Others may not like that, but I do.

I'm NOT so crazy about the cpu cooler. I was really worried about getting a cooler that would block off some of my memory slots, and i read this one did not do that. However, this motherboard is VERY nice and roomy. I don't think blockage would have been a problem.

I put windows 7 RC (64 bit) on there, I have to say I really like it. I may pick up another 4 gigs of ram, putting the memory to 8 gigs.

On it's way to being built, messy looking!

All drives in place (including my Velociraptor and the terabyte drive)

sure looks that way haha.

how you liking the phenom processor so far? i have been thinking about going to them because its easier on the bank account, but i have been wondering how the performance matches compared to a Core i7.

Otherwise, looks great :D

very nice build. how much did you pay for it all?

I've been using an Intel Q6600 for about a year now and i think it's been fantastic, but i'm tempted to switch back to an AMD at some point, esp. for the 64bit processor which the Intel lacks.
So same question as Arn0t i guess, how are you finding the phenom?

Yeah, the Antec Twelve Hundred is a beauty. Personally, I have the Nine Hundred because I couldn't afford the Twelve Hundred at the time. And the inside came painted black? Mine didn't, I think I'll do it myself. Very sweet rig though.

Yea, the inside is black. All 6 case fans have 3 blue LED light on them, so does the cpu cooler..looks really good on that black inside.

A bit more than a grand, but realize I already had the 2 hard drives, both monitors, G9 mouse, speakers, keyboard..stuff like that.

It's MUCH faster than the machine I built 3 years ago, but it's hard to say it's just the processor.

My old machine (which I gave to my son) has the following specs.. It's hard to say that its JUST the CPU that makes it SOO much faster, since I have double the RAM, running a full 64bit OS and a nice step up on the vid cards.

  • CPU - AMD 64 X2 4800
  • Heat Sink - Zalmon 9500
  • MB - Asus A8N-32 Sli Delux
  • PowerSupply - Thermaltake 550W PS
  • Case - CoolMaster Stacker 810
  • Memory - OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) Dual Channel Platinum
  • Vid Cards - Two BFG 7900GTX

Very nice rig, love the case. I should be getting a 275 soon, it seems to be worth it and a nice step up from my current GPU.

thats a big case for low performance i would have got the 900 in your case i have a 1200 and i have 3 gtx 295s in it full tower are best for SLI and high performance pcs a case that size with the little bit of hardware you have will actually hurt your air flow....

and also ASUS boards are bad i would have gone with gigabyte or DFI

just my take on it

I have the same case. How is the cooling with the way you postioned the CPU cooler. I have mine standard since the two back fans suck out more air than the top. But Heat does rise so it seems like a good idea to try.

that's one of the things I did not like about the cooler...the way the mount brackets work, the fan is either blowing up or down, not out the back of the case.

I would have preferred it to go out the back of the case, since I have three fans in the front blowing that direction, and 2 in the back sucking it out...however, since there NOTHING above there, might be good.

We will see how it does...I may end up switching coolers.

Yeah, the Nine Hundred doesn't have the lit up 20cm exhaust fan like the Twelve Hundred. I'm jealous.

And wow, I spent a little over a grand as well. Prices drop so fast.
