Moving to a new case...

I was attempting to move my friends ACER desktop to a new case that he got, I get everything in, hit the power button everything gets power and powers up but there is no POST beep and the monitor just says no signal and nothing pops up. Any ideas? Everything is connected right. It all worked before moving cases, was wondering if the motherboard wasn't grounded right and it got fried.. but I don't think everything would be powering up.

clear the CMOS, there should be a jumper on the mboard somewhere for that

well, in that case the only other thing I can think of is re-seating everything, making sure its all nice & tight.

Well, im thinking.. if it was the motherboard is shot would everything be powering up? Like the video card he has just runs off the mobo power and the fan seems to be spinning...

remove all the cards that u can then try to boot unhook cdrom and hd and see if u can get to the bios

HD and CDROM arent in... I'm just trying to get to the bios which isnt even happening, monitor just says "No Signal" and I dont hear a POST

Does the light on the motherboard (if there is one) turn on when power is supplied via power supply (on of course), but before you hit the main power switch?

Well, the video card is only in the PCI-e 16 slot and has nothing else connected and the fan seems to power up on the card..

Maybe try getting different parts from another pc and seeing if it works? It could help you find out what is causing the problem then you can replace it.

My experience is that I've used the incorrect power cable connections from the PSU to the MB. I've usually used a PCIe plug where the extra 4-cable 12v plug is supposed to go, or something like that. Today's computers have the main 12v connection and then a +4 connector that plugs in, usually beside the 12v. I have also seen a 12 + 4 + 4 connectors, where the last +4 is somewhere else on the montherboard.

Also make sure that you have included power to the video card via PCIe power, and the power switch connector is connected.

If you have a power supply tester, you should probably use it (and you might want to borrow or get one if nothing else works). If the fans are spinning, a good bet is that some power is reaching the motherboard, so check that everything is seated correctly (I find it best to remove and reseat the components so you know for sure) and that everything is plugged in tight. If the motherboard has onboard graphics, try connecting your monitor to that as the computer may be set to boot as that being the primary graphics, in which case the computer may not use a add-in video card. If none of that works, check that the processor is seated correctly and the memory is installed by the motherboard manual's guidelines. Some motherboards are picky and won't boot if everything isn't in the right place, even if it is present. Also make sure that the basic stuff like the monitor is set to the correct input and the video cable is plugged in tightly (I know it is basic, but sometimes that is the stuff that gets people).

Well, considering it's the same MB, and the same PSU just a different case I don't know why it's happening.

Starting to think the PSU just died..

Is this a new PSU, or one from the old case?

And did you change anything else, or just the case itself?

Also, IDE or SATA drive?

Have you tried hooking up to the on board video...? This has happened to me with a new case move. Don't know why it happened but it did and the onboard worked for some reason. Then I installed the new Nvidia drivers and then my vid card decided to work.
