The Way Our Clan Response to Our Public Players

Hey guys, this is fathobo. I probably know we already have a bunch of topics on this but we need to straighten up boys.

This is a post that is mostly intended to the new e's within our division.

The people that come into our servers expect to have a mature and fun environment, which we are always providing for the most part. But, from what I have been seeing recently, are the people that have been going in and out of our servers and in which tend to have a very shallow dictionary. Which means, that they curse and disrespect other players.

As a community and as a division we need to understand that when these people come into the servers and start talking like this, we need to be respectful towards them, even though they are not. Because, if we show a respectful atmosphere by saying:
So and So, please watch the language. Thank you.

That response by us, to them, may even help them from refraining them from cursing or being disrespectful further on in their gameplay. It will also show the other players who are not being breaking the rules another reminder and to show we care about who and what people say in the server. Which in turn allows us to get more recruits and provide a safer environment to younger players we may not know about playing in our servers.

So, just a summary.
E's especially, please respect people when you do tell someone to stop using inappropriate language or disrepecting players. You don't just say "Watch the language." You don't ask for the bread at dinner, "Give me the bread." You add a Please and Thank You.

So, this is just a reminder, I don't know if Leadership wants to sticky this or have people sign off. I already know eG's and eGO's have this down. So this is mainly for the E's/reminder for everyone.

I wasn't talking about e's cursing. I don't know if you were suffering to that. This was just a post to tell e's that they should ask people who come in the server and starting using inappropriate language and disrespect other people should tell them to stop in an appropriate way. With a Please and Thank You.

FWIW - I try to use a bit of humor when reminding folks... for example, when someone curses I'll say "Hey guys, let's all watch the swearing - remember, in real combat Marines NEVER swear"

Usually the response is some laughter - several yeah-RIGHT..'s but the message gets across.

All this to say - find your own style but keep it polite, professional and above all, set the example yourself.

"Watch the language" is akin to "Stop f***ing swearing." You will not get the same response as "Grunt, please refrain from swearing in our servers."

well i dont know where you play, but when there are eGO members playing on our servers, ive always seen that we always were "nice" when telling them that cursing isnt allowed , an when they didnt stop, they were gone. warn, kick, ban,lol

I've had to reprimand several e members in the game with psay messages who were acting rudely and disrespectfully to public players. Addressing in game disputes with things like "these are our servers and we make the rules" and "these are our servers we know better so stfu" ARE NOT acceptable at all when speaking to public players or ANYONE in that regard. It has been happening in our servers more and more lately and I'm trying to stop it in it's spot.

I issue one warning then watch, if any e member acts that way or gives any attitude to any other player afterwards I kick them immediately. No one should mess up activity on our servers, particularly our own members.

Thank you fathobo, I was going to make a post in the CS:S division as I noticed that activity too. Mind if I reference yours as well?

Its for all that are in need. Sticky this man, put it on a bulletin board, I think we really need to engrave this into the new generation/or whatever generation of e's that are recruited and play with us. The respectfulness may always become a great factor especially with our sponsors. If they see we don't act as mature as we say we do towards our community and our public players then they can pull the plug on free gaming gear to show that they don't sponsor clans that can't respect anyone and everyone.

So, yea you can use this. haha.

The material is all in stickies that they are told to read as soon as they get accepted. Now, as it has been pointed out, actually reading the stickies is completely voluntary. But, I have a strange feeling that anyone who doesn't read the stickies will not last very long here.

If you do encounter this, take a condump and notify leadership. If you don't encounter this, don't worry be happy.

That is true, but it doesn't take long for a member to screw up somebody's opinion of eGO. I know a few months ago when a first played on the eGO servers I kept going there because the members of the clan were always nice and I never had any issues with the admins. However if I had seen members of the clan acting like douches without any visible repercussions I would have had far more reservations about joining the clan.

As much as you veterans like to bitch about this topic whenever it appears, the fact of the matter that this behaviour is noticed often enough in the servers to cause doubt as to the maturity and intentions of some members. We need to be held to a higher standard and posts like this will disappear the sooner members understand the rules and spirit of EGO. The problem is not so much the individual, it's the impact that individual has on the clan and our potential members. ANYTHING that impacts that is postworthy in my books.

Please be supportive of our concerned members by keeping your eyes peeled on the servers for disrespectful activity or activity that makes our clan look bad.

Maybe there should be a recruit sign off page showing that they understand the rules? Or a quiz? This shouldn't seem too bad because at least we don't make people try out for this clan. Maybe new members should have to read every sticky, answer some questions on the material, and then we allow them into the clan.

Bean.... I'm loving the idea of a quiz. Not even a quiz, but a test. Just to prove that someone has been reading.
Plus, another thing might be the maturity level of the ppl we're bringing in to the group.

Ya, but the problem is anyone can lie and say they are 18 when they are really 11. I was thinking perhaps an "admin scenario of the week" type of question where the person has to write in an answer and submit it with their application. We could have a stock of questions to use (we only really have to use one with each application) and this would allow us to judge a) their comprehensiveness b) common sense and c) maturity when dealing with issues. We already have admins answering these questions why not extend them to new members too?
