Total noob here when it comes to dual monitors. I have a 19" Hanns-G that I really enjoy as my monitor now, and newegg currently sells it for $110 with free shipping, which made me think about getting another.

I have a 9600GT superclocked edition graphics card, but am unsure how dual monitors will work out. Will the card handle it so I just run one big resolution desktop? Or does it create two desktops of equal resolution. Will the card be able to handle two monitors?

Also, how does full screen gaming work with two monitors? I play tf2 (obviously), but would want one screen full for gaming, and the second to handle chat boxes, etc. How does your computer handle the mouse in that situation? Does mousing to far to one side exit the game? Or do you have to press some sort of button combination?

Any answers would be helpful!

from my little experience you can have 2 monitors while gaming just you cant mouse to the non-game one while playing*

and yes your video card should do fine

You can set it up to be two separate screens or duplicates.

If you use it as 2 seperate screens, some games support dual monitors. If you are playing a game that doesn't you will only be able to use your mouse on the primary screen unless you alt tab.

If you use it as duplicate screens, the game will be on both screens -- simple enough.

I use dual screens.

When I play TF2 it runs in my left monitor and I leave things like my Start Bar, broswers, and MSN in the right side so I can view them if someone messages me.

You do not need to worry about your card being able to handle it, it'll be fine. The second monitor doesn't use that much extra juice.

In my setup the monitors run as two separate ones meaning they each have their own resolution but act as one big desktop space. I can drag windows to and from each monitor as I please.

If you're able to do so, I'd highly recommend it, I LOVE it and hate going to work with only one monitor now!

Here's a SS of my desktop:

If you get two monitors you have to find an awesome dual screen wallpaper!

If you have anymore questions just ask!

thanks for your answers! The alt tabbing was my biggest concern. New development, hanns g has a 27" for $300. Is it hard to take my 19" and put it vertical next to the 27"? Also, anyone know of a good cheap stand to do the physical rotating? It has the four screw backing. Would be nice to have a vertical 19" for viewing documents and such, while going to the big guy for gaming!
