Farewell To Our Friend

It is with great sorrow that eGO must say goodbye to one of our own. Most of us knew Tech Sgt. Starbuck as "Tech", or sometimes "Little Timmy's Dad". The luckier ones knew him as Ken Mauder. He was 57 years old, and a three year member of our community.

Ken was one of the veteran members of eGO. He joined his friends Sad Sak, JohnT, Artimus, Elldallan and Slayr after leaving their old gaming clan, Resistance Platoon. The =(eGO)= tag would not be the recognizable symbol it is today, if not for Ken. He was the one who originally came up with the idea to give our tags the wings we all wear with pride.

For three years, we laughed with Tech, as he regaled us all with the imaginative adventures of "Little Timmy". He was a colorful addition to our Team Speak and then our Ventrilo channels. We cheered him on in Donner, as we captured the tank and forged our way through the connector. Tech was our one man comedy show who brought a smile to the faces of those who knew him best. He inspired old school community loyalty, and a sense of family, to those of us wearing the very tags he helped to create.
In essence, Tech was not just friend. He was family.

In the last year, it was with alarm and dread, that we witnessed the decline of Ken's health. Throughout the hospital visits, and the surgeries, Ken's spirit stayed vibrant. After battling illness related to surgical recovery, Ken could no longer fight the good fight.
On Tuesday, July 14th, 2009, Tech Sgt. Starbuck was called home for the last time. Our John Wayne has sauntered off into the sunset, and the world is sadder for its loss.

...holy crap. Tech's gone?

That's definately not something I was expecting to see in the eGO news. I was never as good a friend to Tech as some of our other members, but he's one of very few names you can recognize from the old days. Pre-house, pre-TF2, pre-everything other than a DoD clan eGO.

It's a real shame, and it saddens me to hear of his passing.

This really does have an unexpected impact on me. I can't explain it, but it's sad to see him go.

Good, though, to see him remembered.

Cheers, as always, Tech.

Through a community of this magnitude a lot is gained, when a community of this magnitude loses someone, even more is lost.

Wow. I unfortunately never had a private conversation with Tech, but during the past year I have been able to share his presence on the forums. I wish I knew you better! You are a great person, and you will be undoubtedly missed.

Goodbye Tech. Your membership in eGO, and this whole world will never be forgotten.

I've never met Tech before. Despite me not seeing him, What people say about him makes me feel ashamed that I did not met this man.

May he Rest In Piece for all Eternity. It seems you've done a great deal to not only eGO, but all of us as well. Making us feel at home here, Safe here.

Rest in Peace Tech!

Tech will be greatly missed from our gaming community. He was always fun to play with and talk to on our vent channels. He always had a good attitude and treated everyone with the utmost respect. I will miss him dearly. I'm glad I got to meet him and play with him on our Day of Defeat Servers. We've had so much fun together and cracking jokes to each other in vent was the bomb. I wish I lived closer to him to be there for him and try to ease his pain.

It would be a nice idea if we created a section in our Forums that displayed some type of a memorial stone with the names of those loyal eGO members who have passed. I know this clan will make it past the 40 year mark. When it's my time to go; if I should make it to my 80's, I would also like to be remembered.

God-for-bid that anyone else passes from our clan/family. But death is inevitable. And It would be nice to create a special memorial page with some type of a monument for those who were part of this great clan and honor them. Maybe I'm over-reacting like I always do. But this was just a thought.

Peace to all!

Rest in Peace Tech. eGO will truley miss you.

May he Rest In Piece for all Eternity. It seems you've done a great deal to not only eGO, but all of us as well. I really wish i could of met him and atleast had one last laugh :crying:

Best wishes to his relatives.

I did not have the pleasure of meeting this man, but now I certainly wish I did.
Rest in peace, and all my condolences to your family.
You will be missed.

Your words are beautiful Fluffy, though the news they carry is some of the saddest I have read.

You made a difference Starbuck. We miss you. Rest in Peace.
