Farewell To Our Friend

It is with great sorrow that eGO must say goodbye to one of our own. Most of us knew Tech Sgt. Starbuck as "Tech", or sometimes "Little Timmy's Dad". The luckier ones knew him as Ken Mauder. He was 57 years old, and a three year member of our community.

Ken was one of the veteran members of eGO. He joined his friends Sad Sak, JohnT, Artimus, Elldallan and Slayr after leaving their old gaming clan, Resistance Platoon. The =(eGO)= tag would not be the recognizable symbol it is today, if not for Ken. He was the one who originally came up with the idea to give our tags the wings we all wear with pride.

For three years, we laughed with Tech, as he regaled us all with the imaginative adventures of "Little Timmy". He was a colorful addition to our Team Speak and then our Ventrilo channels. We cheered him on in Donner, as we captured the tank and forged our way through the connector. Tech was our one man comedy show who brought a smile to the faces of those who knew him best. He inspired old school community loyalty, and a sense of family, to those of us wearing the very tags he helped to create.
In essence, Tech was not just friend. He was family.

In the last year, it was with alarm and dread, that we witnessed the decline of Ken's health. Throughout the hospital visits, and the surgeries, Ken's spirit stayed vibrant. After battling illness related to surgical recovery, Ken could no longer fight the good fight.
On Tuesday, July 14th, 2009, Tech Sgt. Starbuck was called home for the last time. Our John Wayne has sauntered off into the sunset, and the world is sadder for its loss.

To be apart of the legacy that you left behind is an honor, to see such a good man go is truly heart breaking. Good men always go first in order to light the way for us who can't see the light as clearly.

My thoughts and prayers are with you, your family and everybody who enjoys what you helped create. Godspeed and rest in peace brother.

Ken, you can't imagine how sad I am right now. I'll miss you bud. It's been one hell of a 9 years.

I think the measure of a man, or woman, is the impact they have on those around them.

I never had the honor of meeting Tech, but from the posts I have read, he must have been a giant of man to have touched so many so profiundly.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family...

Vaya con dios Tech...

Farewell Ken

I will only remember the best of memories playing and chatting with him. I will never forget his laughter that made me laugh and his great spirit no matter what happened.

I'll miss you forever Ken:)

Ahhh Ken. I will miss you my dear friend. I will miss your quick wit and charm, your humor even in times of crisis and your unwavering faith and loyalty. I will miss the Tech Sgt. Starbuck laugh that still echo's in my memory. Heaven gained a doseful of humor when it decided to take you from us. May you rest with the stars and forever lighten the path we all follow. Rest in peace my friend. Rest in peace.

Definitely a sad day for eGO!
My condolences to his family, and his many friends here at EdgeGamers!
Tech, you will be greatly missed, but always remembered!!

I did not have the good fortune of knowing Tech.
But after reading this, I shed a tear.
My heartfelt condolences go out to his family
& all that knew him.
May he rest in peace.

I never got to meet the man myself, but i have heard nothing but good things about him. Let me rephrase that, amazing things about him. Time is short in life, and he has used it wisely, making friends, and helping others smile. From all the good things i hear about him, i have to say one thing, "Thank God for people like him." With all my sorrow, i say i am sorry for the loss, and i hope his family and friends the best, in their time of mourning.

Man, I am going to miss the old man. For those of you that didnt get to play with him, you missed out on knowing a great man. I have had the honor to play with him in eGO for the past 3 years. And it is true, you can be having the worst day ever and 5 minutes after talkin to tech, you are full of laughter and you forget whatever made you day bad. Gonna miss you pal,

I didn't know you Ken but thanks for your contributions to this wonderful community. Rest in peace my fellow eGO brother.

One of the big issues with being with a large group, no matter what type of group it is, is that some diamonds in the rough are missed.

I'm sorry I have not been able to meet such a man of your caliber Ken, I wish I was able to play more DoD:S and join in your escapades.

May your soul rest well in heaven, where they open the gates of arcade and pc gaming and you have an eternity to kick allied or axis butt.

I didn't have the honor to meet you in the forums, shoutbox or IRC but you sounded like a great guy. RIP.
