Okay, I see a lot of people who refuse to use the Huntsman because it is harder to kill other snipers with it. I just decided to share a few tips I've learned about how to use it. These are mainly for snipers who try to advance with your team, which is what the Huntsman is best at, not arrow spam. If you use it to try and get points, you're using it wrong. Yes, sometimes you end up having to arrow spam when faced by a large horde, but aside from that you should try to aim with it instead.
1: Wait for shots. If a scout comes running in, all to often I see people just randomly shoot off arrows. A good scout will dodge back and forth so you miss. If you wait for them to come closer to you where you can hit them in the head, you will have more chance of killing them. Sure it doesn't always work, there will always be one scout who can get past, but it works better than randomly shooting off arrows.
2: Take on small groups of enemies. You can easily take on three people with the huntsman if you do it right. I once killed a Medic, Pyro, and Soldier on Blackmesa who were on the point with me. Just take out the medic first, then the soldier, then the Pyro. If you think and Identify who is the biggest threat to you or the biggest help to the enemy and kill them first, you will survive.
3: Sometimes, it is just the best idea to run. If you know when you have to run and do it, you can ambush the enemy with a jarate-arrow combo later. If you see more than two scouts, a medic, heavy and pyro coming, just run around the corner, wait for them to pass, then shoot them in the back. The enemy who can't find you is your best friend.
These tips come from experiences I've had, mostly on Blackmesa and 2Fort. If you try some of these tips out, you will live longer, or at least get more kills. The sniper who advances with his team is a bigger help than the one who camps at the last point getting back-stabbed. Remeber, this is team fortress, not (insert name here) fortress. Getting points is all well and good, but having fun is the most important thing, and you're not going to have fun if your whole team doesn't work together.
