In fact, he did the right thing. In my case, I live in NYC and I can test the connection from NYC station. Now the speed is very high because I use cable service. But when I connect it to area like NC, the speed reduces.

To check out your speed in reality, it's very hard to do. Your ISP can tweaks it and allows these programs to give a better result. It can be done. If you connect to a site outside of USA, let say a website from Asia, usually we experience a longer respond or loading time. That's because the distance between the server, the ISP and the client browser.

It also depends on their servers as well. So if their servers delivers at a slower speed (because different data center could have different delivery speed plans for different webhosts), clients (the visitors), regardless whether it;s local or far away, the responding time will be longer.

You could have a webhost provide a cheap plan that doesn't have the International line so it will be really tough for outsider to connect to your site. I can connect to many large and well-known Chinese website because they have that plan included on their hosting plan.

You need to pay extra money on the "lines" if you are running sites like Google, obviously.

but again, these results aren't that realistic. I used to access to a site from Hong Kong. The loading was quick as hell but when the site owner decided to withdraw the expensive international line, it was so hard for me to load the site.

ooo, you maybe on a connection called "lightspan" or something like that. I use to work for Verizon DSL and they were deploying that to rural areas across the nation. Your connection speed is fine. If you want, you can contact Verizon and ask them how far you are from the CO/DSLAM. If you're under 10k feet, ask them to bump your speed up. I'm sure they can.

I just upgraded to DOCSIS 3.0 and my new speeds are amazing. This is the 22 mbps package, but when powerboost kicks in, it get 50mbps easily.

And it probably doesn't hurt that we are the first house to have it in my town.
