Windows 7

If anyone hasnt tried windows 7 yet, you should. I've run XP for a long time and didnt bother with vista:facewall:, but Hex informed me that you can download windows 7 for free. I have to say, so far i love it. Everything about it seems much faster and reliable than previous windows versions i've used, and there is alot more customization that seems available.
The only downside is that next year I'll eventually have to pay for it if i want to keep using it. But based on my experience so far... I dont plan on going back to XP.
If your interested, just google "windows 7 free download" and you'll find it. You'll need some kind of iso program (links are provided for you) and a DVD-R to burn the download onto. The file dowload is a little larger than 3 gigs, but after that, the actual installation of windows takes like 10-15 minutes, much faster than any previous version i've worked with. The whole process took me less time than installing HL2, Steam, TF2, etc....
I love it coming from XP, so i think more people should check it out.

I'm sorry, but do we really need another Windows 7 topic? If you search for Windows 7 on the forums you get like 4 pages of results and I'd guess over 11 of those topics are strictly about Windows 7 and it being awesome.

Sooo if you're hear to moan at someone who makes another windows 7 thread, moan at EVERYONE who does it.

Windows 7 is good
Windows vista is good also
I prefer vista over XP
I prefer 7 over Vista.
Download it now and you can excute it through an exe rather than having to burn it to a disc...

The RC is only good until June of 2010, and at this time you will not be able to just buy windows 7 and use the RC which you already have installed.

Everything I have heard says that you will have to reformat and do a clean install of windows 7.

Now for people who reformat a lot, this is no big deal. But I know some folks who would be pretty screwed if they had to reformat and start from scratch...

Just some food for thought when deciding to use the Windows 7 RC as your main OS...

ya depending on how you set your stuff up reformat can be easy and fast or a pain in the butt it easy for me because i keep all of my personal data on it's own partition and i have 2 other os's to work with after i wipe one out. but for most people a reformat means spending forever and a day figuring out what to backup.

Thats why you have a secondary OS to store your data and retrieve it later
I have 160GB hard drive with my OS in it
But I have a 1TB backup drive where I put things if I'm going to format, so only my windows will be deleted and not my actual software...
It's not hard
Well once you get the hang of it it isn't
For new formatters it will be...

I am using Windows 7 RC as my main OS
I will change it when the time comes though :3

Yeah, so far Windows 7 is getting a lot of good comments, and that's good because Microsoft may have finally made a better OS. Of course that doesn't mean that when it comes out it will be perfect, but it still should be good. I don't run 7 on any of my machines yet, but when there's a point when XP won't be able to run any of the newer games, then I'd be happy to make the switch. Provided that Direct X 10 by then is just as good a Direct X 9.0c in performance.

I guess the whole "Limited time RC" thing is a little disappointing. My dad works at a college as the computer admin, so I get OS's for free, so I'll have the retail (or corp edition) Windows 7 pretty quickly. Sadface to those who have to buy it

And agree/can relate with everything you said. Except the part about the disc drive. Who doesn't have a disc drive? (except you, of course )

Actually, I didn't when I had to install Win7! I had to use jump drive haxxorz and ISO mounting utilities.

Yeah, except for the fact that Windows 7 will be DirectX 11, not DX10. Already making the jump when its predecessor isn't even utilized yet.

lol, because if we could, no one would buy the RTM. Best release candidate Microsoft has ever put out. I have to say, giving us a year to use it is pretty generous imo, especially considering it's from Microsoft.
