Ok I mow this guy's lawn right and hes got a 19" Dell Trinitron CRT monitor at 1600 x 1200 that he wants to give to me for FREE and I was wondering. Would it be better to stick at my 1280 x 1024 17" LCD monitor.
So Ive got all the time in the world, would it be better to switch or to stay.

Oh
4870 1GB
940 BE OC'd at 3.4GHZ
6GBs G.Skill RAM

Unless the monitor's broken, it sounds like a steal, free and higher resolution. If you don't like the way it looks you can always use it as a second monitor. What have you got to lose?

Just take it. If you don't like it, either give it back or just keep it somewhere.

Ok about the second monitor, do I just hook it up to my video cards other plug in for a monitor, and does it stress the video card out a little more even if im just playing games on one?

While it may be big and clunky, it's also FREE! A free upgrade to 1600x1200. Do it! Do it nao!

Yeah, hook it straight into and configure a dual monitor setup.

with a 4870 you'll run dual-monitors just fine

Ok, Dad just told me I can't do the dual monitor, My sister has my old computer now and she also has an old monitor, were gonna give her my 6month old 17" and I get the 19". So no Dual monitor for me :( but atleast I get the bigger one. I gotta wipe her old computer clean tommorow, can anyone tell me how, just delete everything on the C drive? How can I get it clean with no trace that my sister ever had it, but still have Vista on it?

persnally i would just do a full format and reinstall the operating system

The best thing about CRTs is, it's instant refresh rate. The downside is HUGGGEEE. If you LAN a lot, CRTs are not the right way to go.

Take it and use your LCD as a secondary for the web or something.
Me myself I got a IBM C92 19" CRT @ 1600 x 1200 and I love it, just make sure you got the room. :P

Ok I tried the CRT and it had 3 problems. Too big for my desk.
Text had a purple shadow.
And 2 Black lines in the middle of the screen. So it failed.

Nobody would buy a CRT that has 2 lines already blacked out...
Those lines will start to increase with time, making that screen even more useless!

There's so many good 22" monitors available for CHEAP prices... Way cheaper than my LCD TV that I got. The upsides to mine for what I use it for is the reason I paid the higher price though.
I watch movies, play games, and watch TV on my screen. It's a 26" LCD from Samsung. Don't bother trying to compare the ratio's brand vs. brand... there isn't a universal "ratio" to compare them too...

Get what you need/want. If you can't, stick with what you've got... We've all done this for years I believe.
