I've seen various threads where someone ask what laptop, screen, computer,... to buy. If you reply to this post please make a valid reason why he/she should by this or that. This are people actually spending their money on it. So if you give them wrong info, bad arguments they might end up buying the wrong thing which doesn't meet their needs at all. So, please when you are replying to threads like this, think about everything you said twice. Oh and fanboys please watch out.

Example:
Hi, my old graphics card died. I'm looking for a new one which can run TF2, L4D all on max. My budget isn't that great so I need a good 'bang for buck' one.

Useless reply:
You should totally get the ******** I heard they totally rock. I love ***BRAND NAME HERE***

Good reply:
You should get this card: *****. I have it myself, it runs TF2 at ***FPS. Here's a review I found about it: ***********************

I agree. It seriously bothers me when people give advice with little or no background. Folks, how about a reason why the thing is good?

I have always agreed to things related to this.
Useless posts/spam annoy the hell out of me! I used to be a forum owner and would delete stuff all the time :D

Basically, if you can't post anything useful, you don't know enough to help the person out.
Just stay quiet or learn what's "good" and "bad" about it before you post!

I STRONGLY think this section of the eGO forum needs a 'Tech Approved Advice Giver' certificate; that is, the people who know what they are doing should have some symbol indicating to others that they know what they are doing. I'm not indicating that others cannot post responses, just that when someone ask for help, it would be nice if they could look over the replies and see who has the certs to at least offer a reasonable opinion.

Agreed. I'm a member of a number of forums that have similar systems and it works rather well.

There is a medal (a subdivision of the ribbon system) called Tech Help Guru. Nobody gives them out anymore though.
