I just got some new contacts yesterday. Its my first time actually wearing them and having them. I have to say its quite hard getting used to putting it in as I always blink or close my eye because of my natural reactions. Although taking them out is pretty easy to do. So I wanted to see how many other contact wearers are in eGO.

A little story I want to share with you guys. Today at school I was in my third block class (my school has block scheduling so we only have 4 classes in a day but each one last for about an hour and a half). Anyways, I was in my third block class which is ROTC for me. I forgot that you arent supposed to do any heavy rubbing on you eye lids as this moves the contact around and a possibility of getting the contact stuck somewhere its not supposed to be. So i was rubbing my eye and I remembered im not supposed to rub it too hard. After coming to this realization I felt a weird feeling inside of my eye socket. It was the actual contact which was at the top of my eyeball near the back. So I started freaking out knowing that if I didnt get it out I would be at a high risk of getting an infection in my eye. So I asked my Marine Instructor to go to the rest room and try to recover the lost contact. I was in the restroom for about 5 minutes trying to find that little clear sucker. I actually saw the contact itself in the space above my eyeball but I lost sight of it. So I went back to class. Soon afterwards class ended. So I was on my way to lunch when I decided to go back to the restroom to have one last go at the contact. I was unsuccessful again. So I decided to go to the nurse after lunch. But luckily while i was walking down the hall I had my eye shut and I looked down and placed a finger on my eyelid to keep the contact in place so i could open my eye without it returning to its hiding spot. When I did this I felt the contact in the outer corner of my eye. So I hurried back to the restroom where I slowly pulled the contact out and placed it in my little container so that it would be soaking and getting cleaned.

I have to say it hurt and it felt weird. I was also a bit scared because contacts are pretty small and they are mostly clear so it can be a bit hard to find them. But luckily I got mine out so I wont get an infection in my eye and I can continue to play with my favorite community......=(eGO)=

wowza.. i tried contacts out for a minute.. and freaked out and tried to get them out.. didnt like em.. lol i mean i dont need to wear any sort of eyewear other than sunglasses for outside.. I feel bad for people that have to deal with contacts.

lol they are hard to get used to but I dont feel like dealing with glasses and everything so I went for contacts. Pretty cool I must say. They do the job perfectly. I only really need them for driving on sometimes school when I cant see what the whiteboard says. But I think Ill keep them in as much as possible just so I can have better eyesight all around.

I wear contacts.

I honestly far prefer them to glasses, but I was fortunate that contacts didn't feel too awkward for me.

You'll most definitely feel them when they first go in, as it's a foreign object on your eye. Typically, within a minute or so most of the feeling has already started to fade.

The one thing I hope you're most careful with, is not getting anything between your eye and the contact. It. Fricking. Hurts.

I got LASIK after I got out of the Army, cost me 3 grand, but was worth every penny. It is much cheaper now, and I would recommend it to anyone. Got it in 2004, haven't had any problems.

I wear contacts sometimes. I prefer them to the glasses, but I'm to lazy/hurried to put them in most of the time. You'll get used to having the contact float a little. It helps if you don't get the cheapest contacts either, you'll notice if you spend a little more, the quality is a lot better, especially the gas permeable lenses you get in a vial, but you pay for it.

Also, if you think thats bad, try wearing colored contact lenses sometimes. If you blink just right, the contact moves up and tints your entire field of view.

You'll get used to it, don't worry. That kinda stuff happens to me all the time. Just try to not sleep with it, use it past it's date, scratch your eye while take it out, etc.

I have one of the worst levels of astigmatism along with myopia and therefore i dont qualify for lasik and the contacts do crap for me. I am on my third trial pair trying different brands to see which gives me the best result and so far its the bausch and lomb purevision torics but I still have horrible halos at night.... sigh

contacts are nice but if u can afford LASIK i would suggest getting that. However when wearing contacts my major problem is the protein deposits that gather on the contacts. You should watch out for that.

My eyes were watering like crazy just reading that.

Also, I wear glasses. I don't really mind them, but I haven't tried any alternatives.

Not to mention not wearing them in chemistry labs. Heard of them fusing to people's corneas when working around strong acids.

I would do Lasik, but I heard about people who had failed operations. They interviewed this one lady and her vision was rainbow-ish and hazy. This was on the journalist show 20/20 a couple years ago. I wonder how high the risks are in these operations?

Yea Thanks for all the tips guys. I never sleep with my contacts on for one why would i need contacts in my sleep anyways? Second if a rub is enough to misplace my contact then Im pretty sure something could happen in my sleep to make something worse happen. And thanks much Defcon lll [+SUF]. Ill be sure to look out for chemistry labs and things of other sorts that could contaminate my contacts. Cool to see that there are some of you guys like me out there. Unfortunately I stayed home from school today because my eye was hurting from the contact getting lost, so I went and got it checked to make sure it wasnt scratched. Luckily just a bit of irritation so the optometrist gave me some drops to help out a bit.

the lenses wont fuse to your cornea. I work in a research lab and deal with acids that would burn to the skin on a daily basis. The worry is with the gas permeable hard lenses which will trap the fumes and essencially burn the cornea. The soft lenses are better at moving fumes quicker, but still run the same risk.

i wear em occasionally but im thinking about wearing one in one eye and wear a monocle on the other eye

Been wearing contacts for six-seven years now. Eventually it just becomes so routine you'll never notice them. It actually helps me a lot, because putting in my contact lenses helps wake me up and prevents me from falling asleep. Never once have I fallen asleep with these contacts in, very good for late night cramming sessions. I've been thinking of switching to contacts I can sleep in for college though, because I'm sure my good luck won't last. :)

We'll if his chemistry class anything like my chemistry class back in high school... you dont really have to deal with much "gases" unless its human gas... High School classes are a joke.
