Verify your Steam account

Leatest Steam update introduced the new account verification system that should prevent account phishing. When you verify your e-mail address, all account changes (password, e-mail, secret question) will have to be confirmed via e-mail.

To verify your e-mail address, go to File -> Settings in Steam.

I highly recommend that you do this, it only takes a second.

I just changed my Steam account email. The notification is sent to the old address and does not actually require you to confirm, but it's still a nice improvement.

Edit: It does require confirmation for a password change.

I just changed my Steam account email. The notification is sent to the old address and does not actually require you to confirm, but it's still a nice improvement.

i tested it out on a pw change it will send a confirmation code to the e-mail you verified which is needed to change the pw.

so this should make it harder for phishers they would need access to your steam and e-mail to change your account info.

besides if you get both your steam and e-mail phished you fail and should sell your pc

wait so how will this protect it?

If you get tricked into giving someone your account info, they won't be able to change your password (steal your account) without logging into your e-mail and confirming it. This way, the worst they could do is log in and play games.

Once you get an e-mail telling you that your password was trying to be changed, then you will say to yourself "Oh, that guy I gave my password to actually WASN'T a Valve employee after all!". Then, naturally, you will change your password, therefore saving your account from doom.
