Verify your Steam account

nice.. another way to keep accounts from being eaten by the hacker monsters

gotta be careful now.. They are gonna ask you for your email address and your password to your email in addition to your steam login and password. I had it happen to me a few minutes ago.

Namewitheld: Hello my name is steve with valve account services, we are currently revamping our system in order to protect users from account phishing.
=(ego)=? mediarocker: Oh really? That's cool.
Namewithheld: In order for us to protect your account due to the new system, we require use of your email and steam account and their associated passwords.
=(ego)=? mediarocker: Ok, well my email is [email protected] and my password is !tsolteg. Its the same for both.
Namewithheld: Wait, you're a valve employee?
=(ego)=? mediarocker: Yeah, wouldn't you have guessed?
Namewithheld is now offline.

lmao!

I verified mine 2 weeks after I got bruteforced out of my password, couldn't release the update sooner, ey? Lol

Verify your Steam Account, NOW.

Guys, Valve released a option in the Steam program that allows Steam to send a passcode to your email account in case the password is changed on the account.

What does this mean? It means if someone attempts to phish your account, they would need the passcode sent to the email address you use on your Steam account. The only way someone could hack into your account, is if they get hold of your email account (Might be best not to have the same password for both your email and Steam account)

To enable this, go to Settings -> Then to the Account tab. You only have to do this once. Its a 1 minute process that could save you the trouble of crawling to Valve asking for the return of your account. So please, do this.

Steam want's my email password? Yeah right! Sure they do. Why don't they ask for my bank account numbers and social security number too. Perhaps I should send them a check for all of the money in my checking and savings as well.

Ok here's how it works.

You open steam. go to files; settings.
You will see what steam thinks is your email and a note saying unverified.
Click on the verify link.
They send you an email.
open the email and click the link.
Go back to steam and your verified.

Notice the only time your password comes up is when you log into steam. Done deal.
