yea its called bottlenecking. 80108 why dont you get a gtx 275 or gtx 285 by the time xmas comes, a gtx 260 is good but its not amazing. You wont see it running games other than source games well at 1920x1080. Its by no means a terrible card but a GTX 280 isn't really that good of an upgrade.

Here is a site showing the older GTX 260 black edition matching up to the performance of a GTX 280. There is a newer GTX 260 black edition out on newegg with faster stock speeds which may get even better frames than this and when they overclocked their older GTX 260 black edition, they got a FPS boosts of around 4-6 FPS which helped it either beat or match the GTX 280 in games it was a bit behind.

GTX 260 Black edition (newegg, new one) - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150399

Basically what im trying to say is, either get that black edition gtx 260, or have a second upgrade option that is better like a gtx 285. gtx 275, or a ati 4890.

im getting a new computer soon, like maybe next week, so it will NOT be a bottleneck, unless 2.8GHz Dual core is. but hey, i dont want the BEST, and depending on the price of 280 or 285 is, i might get one of those instead.

i also have a few more questions,
how are Xcilio cases?
what is a cheap gpu (preferable under 50 dollars) to hold me over until xmas?

I guess an ATI 4650 should be good till christmas or a comparable Nvidia card.

Xclio cases are fine, they are fugly but cheap and they will do fine for you. They atleast have a decent number of fans for the price.

This was the cheapest one i could find:

I personally like Cooler Master but the case i have is probably out of your budget. Its a Cooler Master HAF 932. Cooler Master's cheaper cases are fairly good too but i would go with the Xclio just because it has more fans.

i dont need the HAF 932, the 922 is big enough, and i already chose a case from Xcilio. but thanks for the help though.
case

Hey man....i posted that already 2 posts before yours :P

they're different articles, but anywho ya i'd definitely get a 260 black edition instead of a 280/285...basically the same performance but a lot cheaper

haha yea i wasn't telling you to buy it, was just saying thats what i had. That Xclio case is fine, i think it will fit almost all the graphics cards out there but im not 100% sure.

But yea, get a GTX 260 black edition as junk and i said. Its basically as fast as a GTX 280. If your gonna go with something faster, get a GTX 285 i guess.

Also if you do get the black edition, custom overclock it yourself even faster, i hear those things can go over 700mhz core and a couple hundred more mhz on the memory and shaders and such.

also, do you think i could over clock the 2.8GHz to at least 3.1GHz?

what is the exact processor?? but depending on your motherboard, you most likely won't have any problem at all (some motherboards don't let you overclock what so ever)

haha buddy, you can overclock it to whatever you want. Get a good aftermarket cooler and just do your thing. I got my Q6600 which is stock 2.4 to 3.65 24/7 so i dont see why you cant go ever higher with a duo core.

Im using an OCZ vendetta 2 but newegg doesnt sell it anymore. Its great and basically all Heat pipe direct touch designs are really good now, they are currently the best i believe. Anyway, mine was the best Q6600 aftermarket cooler after looking at reviews.

Here is the Scythe Mugen 2, it is virtually identical to the OCZ vendetta 2 so it should cool down your CPU fairly well.

Scythe fans are also very good so this one might even outperform mine, scythe fans are known to be one of the best performing fans on the market and they are very popular.

i plan on getting the V8, and by then i will have a quad core most likely.

The V8 isnt that good.......from tests and everything, the Direct Touch Heat Pipe designs work better. The only one i would go for is the V10 but that thing is expensive. The V8 just looks real nice. Trust me, the Scythe Mugen 2 or the OCZ Vendetta 2 are better coolers than the Cooler Master V8. The V10 is the king though.

ok. ill keep that in mind. and the v10 looks stupid imo, and its $126.

my stock cooler got my Phenom 550 BE from 3.1GHz to 3.5 GHz so if you buy any After market cooler you should be fine

The V10 is good though, it might not be the most amazing CPU cooler but it cools your ram and your mobo, thats why the thing is so massive. I would get one but i still can't justify paying that much. Maybe if ebay had it for cheap i would get one. The thing is still one of the best CPU coolers on the market and basically the best air cooler out there. Just expensive but it looks nice, atleast i think it does. Looks manly lmao, beastly

imo, it looks too blocky, and i couldnt justify it either.

a cooler isn't going to magically let you overclock a huge amount more, i can overclock my 550 BE to 3.5 too but it still doesn't have an overheating issue in the least so i don't need an aftermarket cooler.
