We honor and remember the EdgeGamers members who are no longer with us. Their presence, impact, and camaraderie left a lasting impression on our community, and their contributions will never be forgotten. Though they may no longer be here, their legacy remains in the friendships they forged, the moments they created, and the spirit of gaming they helped build.

Remembering Ken "Tech Sgt. Starbuck" Mauder

On Tuesday, July 14, 2009, EdgeGamers said goodbye to one of its own. Ken "Tech Sgt. Starbuck" Mauder — "Tech" to most, and "Little Timmy's Dad" to those who knew his stories — was 57 years old and a three-year veteran of our community. He joined his friends Sad Sak, JohnT, Artimus, Elldallan, and Slayr after leaving their old clan, Resistance Platoon, and helped shape eGO into what it is today.

The =(eGO)= tag would not be the recognizable symbol it is without Ken — he was the one who first came up with the idea to give our tags the wings we all wear with pride. For three years he was our one-man comedy show, regaling Team Speak and Ventrilo alike with the imaginative adventures of "Little Timmy," cheering us on as we captured the tank and pushed through the connector in Donner. He inspired old-school community loyalty and a real sense of family in those of us wearing the very tags he helped create.

Through a year of hospital visits and surgeries, Ken's spirit stayed vibrant, but in the end he could no longer fight the good fight. Our John Wayne has sauntered off into the sunset, and the world is sadder for the loss. In essence, Tech was not just a friend — he was family. Rest in peace, Tech.

Remembering Brian "The IRON Horse" Howe

On July 29, 2009, EdgeGamers lost a beloved member of our family. Brian "The IRON Horse" Howe was a 41-year-old Phoenix Police Officer — a sniper on the department's SWAT unit, a devout Christian, a husband, and a father of two. He was a huge baseball fan, deeply athletic, and an avid gamer who found real joy in playing alongside his clan.

Iron Horse was a fixture on our Black Mesa server, and so well known for his style of play that "stop iron horsing" became shorthand among us all for camping the vents with stickies. Even as ALS took more from him each day — his speech, his strength, the use of his hands — he found a way to get to his computer and kick our butts in the vents, one extra-effortful keystroke at a time. Gaming with his clan was one of the few pleasures the disease couldn't take from him, and we were honored to share it with him.

Iron Horse, you will be greatly missed, and you will forever be remembered for the player and the friend that you were. Rest in peace, our friend.

Remembering Kirk "CrazyWacko"

On Saturday, June 7, 2014, EdgeGamers lost a beloved member of its Minecraft community after a long illness. Known to all of us as "CrazyWacko" — Kirk to those closest to him — he had been a member since 2011 and the division's affectionately titled "resident Post Master." He was remembered for the obsidian ships and underground waterways he built in Minecraft, his love of World of Tanks, and a warmth and humor that made him a friend to many across eGO.

When the news reached the forums, the tributes came at once — "You will be missed very much here in the MC Division and eGO," "a friend to many of us," "Rest in peace, brother." He was a kid at heart, always ready to have fun, and — as another community that loved him put it — "a great person to game with, a great conversationalist, and a great human being."

Rest in peace, Wacko. You will always be remembered here.

Remembering Layton "ProCombat" Means

On Thursday, October 20, 2016, EdgeGamers lost a dedicated and passionate leader. Layton "ProCombat" Means was involved in a motorcycle accident that tragically claimed his life that afternoon. ProCombat, a Division Leader of Garry's Mod and a Tech Team member, poured his heart into his work at EdgeGamers. His dedication and efforts were instrumental in shaping the Garry's Mod division into what it was.

Our community was incredibly fortunate to have such a knowledgeable and committed leader who helped run our servers and core systems. No one could question the passion Layton had for EdgeGamers. Shortly after earning PSC Member of the Year, ProCombat was interviewed by SigmaTaurus. In that interview, he shared his philosophy: "You put all your time and effort into what you love to do. I was focused on making eGO better."

Remembering Sam "iGreen" Burt

On Wednesday, November 8, 2017, EdgeGamers lost one of its own far too soon. Sam "iGreen" Burt, of Macclesfield, England, was just 27 years old. A member since early 2009, iGreen was a driving force in our Team Fortress 2 community — an admin and leader who hosted events, welcomed new players, and helped guide the division through its most active years.

Fittingly for a gamer, Sam turned his love of computers into a life's work: he studied computer science at Birmingham University and went on to become an IT technician. Off the servers, he was every bit the person he was on them — a talented athlete who played American football, and a tireless fundraiser who raised more than £16,000 for his local hospice. Diagnosed with a brain tumour at 18, he faced it with courage for a decade, never losing the warmth and good humor his friends here knew so well.

Those who knew him remember "a true gentleman" who, as one friend put it, "had time for everyone." Rest in peace, iGreen — a true gentleman, and one of the good ones. You will always be remembered here.

Remembering Mike "I SURVIVED LONDON BLITZ" — "London"

On November 23, 2018, EdgeGamers lost one of its most beloved veterans. Known to all of us as London — and as "Blitz" to many — Mike was a fixture of our Day of Defeat: Source community for well over a decade, an admin who helped shape the Avalanche server and earned recognition as a DoD:S Member of the Year. He didn't just play; he kept the server fair and welcoming, mentored younger players, and set a standard of integrity that the people around him never had to question.

London was beloved for his warmth, his endless stories, and a playing spirit that lit up every round. Generations of players knew his calls by heart — "Get out there and use your nades!", "Push! Push!", and his unmistakable "You've just been Blitzed by the oldest DoD player!" Many a member joined eGO or kept coming back to Avalanche simply because London was there, and the game always seemed more fun when he was on.

London's wife, Hazel, shared the news with us on his behalf — he wanted us to know, and that he was proud to have been part of this community. Months later she wrote to us again to say their family had compiled a book of the tributes left here, that Mike had truly loved this game and its players, and to send her love to all of DoD. We were the lucky ones. Rest in peace, London — you'll always be remembered, and never truly gone.

Remembering Rogue "Yokai" Sniper

On June 11, 2019, Rogue Sniper, also known as "Yokai", was taken from us due to a fatal accident.

A veteran member of EdgeGamers since early 2007, Rogue Sniper contributed greatly to the success of our Counter-Strike: Source and Global Offensive servers. Serving as an Advisor for nearly five years, he dedicated much of his time and effort to our Jail servers, playing a key role in the recreation of the community-favorite Highschool map. Even after stepping down from Leadership, Rogue remained committed to creating exceptional content for the community, demonstrating an unmatched attention to detail and determination in every project he pursued.

Although we are an online community, the friendships we build are real. Many of us form lifelong bonds through gaming, connecting with friends across the country or even the world. This was certainly the case with Rogue Sniper.

Rogue Sniper will be deeply missed. Our condolences go out to his family and friends. Out of respect for his privacy and secrecy, identifying details have been intentionally omitted.

Remembering "Ubermaniac"

On Monday, September 14, 2020, EdgeGamers lost one of its most spirited members. Ubermaniac — "Uber" to those who knew him — was a funny, energetic go-getter during his time as an eGO admin. He joined the community and was quickly promoted up the ranks, serving on the AT, EC, and RT teams in the Counter-Strike Group.

Uber was well known for his great sense of humor and his quick reactions during comps — he was the guy everyone wanted on their team, and the person everyone wanted to play golf with. He had an infectious attitude about gaming and memes that lifted every server and every conversation he was part of. A prime candidate to become a CS Advisor, Uber left us before that promotion could come, but the imprint he left on everyone lucky enough to call him a friend was immeasurable.

Uber was taken too soon. He will always be missed and remembered for his sense of humor, his good attitude, his caring demeanor, and his helpful acts. We will miss you, Uber, and Rest in Peace — as you said countless times: "Hey, that's pretty good!"

Remembering Jay "jtipton." Tipton

On February 1, 2025, we lost a cherished member of the EdgeGamers family. Jay "jtipton." Tipton was known for his warm personality, his dedication to the community, and his love for Battlefield. His presence brought life to every server he touched, and he leaves behind a legacy of kindness and camaraderie.

Jay was more than just a player — he was a friend to many, a constant in the games we played, and a shining example of the spirit we strive for in EdgeGamers. His memory will continue to live on in the laughs we shared, the stories we tell, and the friendships he helped create.
