The Administrative Line

This thread is in response to an event that happened earlier today. A debate started with an admin and a player within the general chat of the game about the use of a word, whether or not it's allowed to be said.

I simply stated/suggested to the player that they shouldn't argue with the administrators of the server. I wasn't trying to administrate or come across as an authority figure in the server, just giving some sound advice to another player.

I was sent a tell from the admin stating to leave the administrating to him and play the game. This brings me to my question:

What is the line between impersonating an admin and just trying to be helpful to those in the server? Should we not ask people to not use profanity if an admin is in the room and what if they're not?

This isn't suggesting that I was in the right or the wrong, I am just wanting to know my duties as a member carrying the =(e)=? tag.

Yes, at times people will argue with an admin's decision. In this type of situation, let an admin handle it. They have been trained to deal with players like this. As an =(e)=™ the only job you have is to play the game and check the forum. But, at times an admin may not be aware someone is breaking the rules (example, maybe the admin(s) are on another team and there are no admins on your team)

If a case like this happens, you can contact an admin by activating TEAM chat (Default key is "U" on the keyboard in TF2) and type the @ sign. You can tell the admins in the server that someone is breaking our rules. So typically your message may look like @ Hey, John Doe on the BLU team is cursing over his mic.

You won't be able to see the message, but the admins will after you send it.

It would be better to PM an eG, or an eGO about this. If the player was causing trouble and would not stop, it would be better to post a ban request on the bottom of the forum page. If an admin is in a game, let him handle the situations. If he doesn't catch something someone said, you can send him a message by going into teamchat, and put an @ then the message.

If you ever need help in-game, don't hesitate to contact an eG or eGO admin through your Steam friends, Ventrilo, IRC, or the Shoutbox here on the forums. Feel free to send me a friend request too.

It would also be a good idea for you to add eG's and eGO's to your friend's list on Steam when you've played with them. This will make it easier for you to contact an admin if one is needed.

Both very good at explaining what should be done. Feel free to add any admin to your friends list, that way if anything like this happens and there are no admins on call on one of them for help. As an e, when there are admins on as much as we appreciate the help it is always best just to let them handle the situation. Hope all these responses help.

I believe this has been answered very well. When admins are on the server, please leave admining to them. Feel free to make use of the admin chat if you think that perhaps something has gotten by an admin or if there is no admin on your team to hear team speak, but in general it's best to leave any conversation regarding a situation to be left with the admins.
