I used inoculate AV. Works like a champ. and no pop ups or stupid things that tie down my resources like norton or crappy ones like that.

AVG free, simple to use.
but you need a lot of memory...
i use Microsoft Security Essentials, Microsoft just released it and its not as much of a resource hogging tank like Norton or McAfee.
I would reccomend kaspersky. Active scanning, and the problem with avg is it gives too many false negatives that Kaspersky picks up. Examples are: The Windows media ActiveX remote code execution flaw.
