make Gordon Freeman the best video game hero! vote now!

Mario is not "the" video game hero. He might be the video game icon or posterboy for video games, but certainly not the hero. He's a damn plumber who wanders around in whatever drug induced, star-filled fantasy Nintendo comes up with. Whether or not it makes any sense. And a good portion of the time, he doesn't even save anyone from any real danger. He saves people from being fat balloon people, saves Peach from a situation that wasn't actually all that dangerous, or something of the sort.

But he's no hero.

Gordon is a hero.

Oh wow, can't believe Gordon is beating Mario. It just goes to show you what happens when u host a poll that only people on pcs can vote on. Now if people on consoles could vote on their consoles or were somehow notified that a vote for the greatest video game hero was going on...i think the results would differ :P.....oh well....what do i know...i haven't played half life yet D:....Guess i'll have to pick it up for christmas :D

P.S. I voted Gordon!

Mario has never fixed a damn pipe in his life and he calls himself a plumber.
Also, Gordon IS the hero, he joined in a rebellion to help fight the government (Combine), and basically save the human populace, what has Mario done you ask? He helped a princess get out of a tower. And gave himself a headache and a fat wallet.

You can't compare Gordon to Mario.

Mario has personality. Gordon does not.

/thread.

Gordon is sybolic, theres more to him and the story than meets the eye. And for mario...well read the description below, pretty spot on.

He's a scientist that saves the world from evil. Generic.

Mario, fantasy setting, saving a princess from homicidal turtles. More original.

And to be honest I'm not a big fan of either series.

Gordon saved (HL1), and Is still saving the Human race, they could be wiped out by the Combine.

Who does Mario save In his game? (Notice I said game, they are all the same)
A princess.

The mario is a silly arcade game with a fantasy story, whats with hitting his head on cubes and getting coins?
Theres more story to Gordon than Mario.
And this contest is about who the gaming HERO is.. not the most Original, and if i had to choose a hero, It wouldnt be Mario, cause he would just save the princess, Id rather the entire human race be saved.

I don't think I really need to explain the story behind Gordon, he doesn't need one. The fact that he was mute really endeared me to him, the unspoken word is more powerful than the spoken one sometimes. Gordon's unspoken one is being a hero with an interesting arsenal that contains all the standby weapons (pistol, shotgun, bigger pistol, smg) as well as a few originals (gravity gun, the secondary on the pulse rifle), a simple but powerful backstory (Ph.D in physics from M.I.T., black mesa, Barney) and one hell of a goatee.

Mario jumps, drives cars, makes funny noises when he jumps and was originally in a game not even named for him, not to mention he was a carpenter, not a plumber, named jumpman then. Plus, he's based on a sterotype, which while it's sometimes funny, it gets old fast.
