Hello, most of you don't know/remember me.

I, being incredibly bored with video games as a whole, hopped onto TF2. After all, I played this game near religiously because it was in fact a fantastic game.

I hop onto good ol' Blackmesa and start running around as a soldier blowing people up and it was good. Then I noticed people were spamming trade requests and the chat with "Trade plz".

Then I looked the hundreds of new items that have been released since I stopped playing this past summer and I grew fatigued. I don't want to learn how to play this game again.

I was comfortable with everyone having one alternate weapon per slot, it added all the dynamics the game needed in my opinion. Now there's so much new crap that I just don't want to even bother anymore.

Plus after seeing you could simply buy the crap that takes so many hours of game play to craft, I felt cheated out of all my items and hats. Simple was good, and this game is almost entirely a different game from what I remember.

Such a shame, it was the best multiplayer shooter out there for a long time.

Yea, this is definitely weird. My comp broke two months ago and tf2 is basically a new game. Being able to buy weapons does cheapen the quest for finding all of the weapons, but I still think the game is worth playing. I'm not buying anything, I'll stick to my old weapons until I find new ones. As for trading, it doesn't make sense to me to have trading when you can buy anything you want except for hats, lol. Yes, it was a great game for a long time. It got me back into gaming after everyone ditched the original counter strike as "the best game ever." Knowing that, I can only hope that another new "best game ever" can come out and last as long as CS and TF2 did.

I wonder what the history books will say about our era of video gaming. I'm sure there are some atari lovers out there just rolling over in their graves saying "counter strike the best game ever?! Pff!"

P.S. You should add me to steam friends nirahtci. When I get my comp back I so wanna tf2 it up.

i think trading was a good thing to be added. its really not hard to get new weapons this way and you find them too. and if you have some hats twice you can trade them for another hat and even a hat you want ;)
play a lil more with the update and im sure youll notice its not bad ^^

The update didn't really add any strategic advantages (unless you buy the sets, which most people don't) to the classes. I can still whip it up as a Soldier with Buff Banner and original Rocket Launcher. The items are more 'looks' than anything. That's my take on it, anyway, and I've been playing TF2 since it came out in October 2007.

The whole trading thing will eventually die down, it's just that events such as the Mann Co update and the recent Scream Fortress have increased the trade spam. To me, it's just something I learn to live with. The same thing has happened in the past.

Theres things I like about the update and things I do not, but only thing you might have to relearn is if you play as one of the new polycount sets which no one has to do.

I think that the new weapons were a needed addition to the dying game of tf2. I have loved the game for a long time, but it felt very repitive and plain out boring around the release of the spy/sniper update. Sincce then though, the hat update and now the mann co update have really brightened the game and added new aspects and more fun to be had. The trading is a little overkill and can ruin the game in many cases, but overall it was a smart decision.

Nirahtci, I have been playing thru the updates and am quite upset at the way Valve took this once great game. I personally prefer a time before hording hats, weapons, and other items became commonplace. Fear not though, as our own Neo-Omega has been working on a vanilla TF2 game that predates all the class updates, the way the game originally was. Hopefully, we'll be able to get this map online soon and play the game the way it was intended.

Oh, and I do remember you. ;)

The amazing part about a game such as TF2, as opposed to say, Eve Online or WoW, is that you can run your own server which is set to classic mode, so that everyone can go back to playing the game the old way!

It's true! I've seen them!

About the only thing that annoys me with the trading system is the constant spam.

TRADING KEYS FOR CRATES. TRADING KEYS FOR CRATES. TRADING KEYS FOR CRATES. TRADING KEYS FOR CRATES. TRADING KEYS FOR CRATES. TRADING KEYS FOR CRATES.

I've found two routes through this. The first is to have fun with it.

=(eGO)=™ AutoDMC =[Ga]= !!! : Trading Navy Apocalypse and Caldari Titan for Mad Milk
=(eGO)=™ AutoDMC =[Ga]= !!! : 2 Mithryl Plate +3 Chestplates of Piety for Vintage Beanie
=(eGO)=™ AutoDMC =[Ga]= !!! : 1977 AMC Matador, 200,000 miles A/C Runs Good for Jeep OBO

This is pretty good.

If, however, it's chat spam... well, there are rules about chat spam... and admins have ways of making sure rules are followed...

In any case, the only weapon that has appeared that I seriously dislike is the Eternal Reward. As much as Spies love it, there doesn't seem to be sufficient downsides (Spies, begin flames now), but that's mostly because I miss my Sentry getting sweet, sweet revenge on a spy who backstabs me.

But all in all, I'm totally happy with the upgrades to the game, and wish to see more. And nothing's more fun than somebody inviting me to trade to find out what a Caldari Titan is.

That's a good point. I had liked the ER since it came out... well because it was so creepy lol. It just freaks me out when I get killed and see someone posing as me running around after. Just really adds to the game to me, since it's so much like when the spy kills the medic in Meet the Spy.

You're looking really deep into it.
The new weapons didn't change the basics of the game: Rock, Paper, Scissors.
The Saharan spy set is the only big "Change" to be noticed, and the spy is a class that allows developers to play with his style.
Other than that, it's not a big deal: Soldiers never were that good for taking down sentries. Pyros already did the airblast + axe to the face, they switch faster now, that's it. Scouts were always annoying. Can't kill snipers with a headshot only changes the sniper vs sniper mechanics.
About the trade spam, belive me, we have it quite controled in eGO servers. At least I do, because I know how annoying it can be. You're just not used to it.

All in all, the game hasn't changed one bit. You still have the capability of fragging.

I think that the new weapons were a needed addition to the dying game of tf2.

I hear this a lot. I've yet to see anyone able to point to a time where it was actually "dying". That's pretty much because it never was.

It is official; Netcraft now confirms: TF2 is dying

One more crippling bombshell hit the already beleaguered TF2 community when Steam confirmed that TF2 market share has dropped yet again, now down to less than a fraction of 1 percent of all servers. Coming close on the heels of a recent Netcraft survey which plainly states that TF2 has lost more market share, this news serves to reinforce what we've known all along. TF2 is collapsing in complete disarray, as fittingly exemplified by failing dead last in the recent Gamers comprehensive gaming test.

You don't need to be a Kreskin to predict TF2's future. The hand writing is on the wall: TF2 faces a bleak future. In fact there won't be any future at all for TF2 because TF2 is dying. Things are looking very bad for TF2. As many of us are already aware, TF2 continues to lose market share. Red ink flows like a river of blood.

Dodgeball is the most endangered of them all, having lost 93% of its core developers. The sudden and unpleasant departures of long time Dodgeball developers only serve to underscore the point more clearly. There can no longer be any doubt: Dodgeball is dying.

Let's keep to the facts and look at the numbers.

SourceOP leader Drunken F00l states that there are 7000 users of TF2 SourceOP. How many users of SourceMOD are there? Let's see. The number of SourceOP versus SourceMOD posts on Steam is roughly in ratio of 5 to 1. Therefore there are about 7000/5 = 1400 SourceMOD users. TF2 posts on Steam are about half of the volume of SourceMOD posts. Therefore there are about 700 users of SourceMOD. A recent article put SourceOP at about 80 percent of the TF2 market. Therefore there are (7000+1400+700)*4 = 36400 SourceOP users. This is consistent with the number of SourceOP Steam posts.

All major surveys show that TF2 has steadily declined in market share. TF2 is very sick and its long term survival prospects are very dim. If TF2 is to survive at all it will be among gaming's dilettante dabblers. TF2 continues to decay. Nothing short of a cockeyed miracle could save TF2 from its fate at this point in time. For all practical purposes, TF2 is dead.

Fact: TF2 is dying

Oh, just like how they said PC gaming was dying over 10 years ago? And CS:S was supposed to die 3 years ago. It's all bologna.

I think we're starting to see TF2 player's mindset start to get a lot closer to that of C:SS'

CSS players tend to be more conservative, and often times dislike changes to their game, no mater how minute.

A good example of this is the orange box/achievement update over the summer. Many people disliked the update, even though it really didn't even change gameplay.

I foresee something like this happening to TF2 in a short amount of time. If valve keeps adding weapons like this, the game is going to get needlessly complex. The polycount/mannconomy update was really what broke the camel's back for me. I had to relearn the game all over again, and all the new items made the game feel cluttered. Also, trading has made hats almost worthless.

(I do remember you Nirahtci, do you remember me?)

the trading spam is kind of annoying but i love the new items and support tehcontunued release of new items it keeps the game fresh i still use the old items and i switch out diffren items its just a little bit of refreshment toplay the same class as it might be intimindating to relearn everythign after not playing for a while but i think once you accept and get to know the new items you will enjoy it

This is funny when you read it as sarcasm.

It's like saying Quake Three Arena is dead. To this day and age, I can pull up over a thousand servers hosting a game right now. Mods too, like Freezetag, Overkill, etc.

TF2 can't die, it has no soul. As long as a small following still maintain servers, TF2's future is secure. Valve might take down the item servers in a good number of years, but the game isn't hosted itself on Valve's corporate network.

Lots of rage, I don't care honestly either way. I just like playing games with my friends online, no matter what it is or how it changed, it is still a game and can be played!

Just my two cents.

Also it's fun trying to sell my little brother for a hat.
