My point was that trying it as an event is less of commitment than doing a full change over. Historically it has been very difficult to break the DoD division out of its rut. A weekly event lets us make a change without running into the stonewall of "we have popular servers we don't need to make any changes."
It will be much more palatable to try it on a part time basis and if the response is good we will have a much better argument for going to a 24/7 change.
I would disagree that the 'stonewall' is in the minds of most people. I think most people that play this game understand where it is headed without constant movement. This division doesn't have the same luxury that others do, too much waiting around for something to happen would in my opinion prepare DoD:S for being rolled into another division. We have some successful servers true, but why leave a dead server dead?
I don't see the logic behind the concern for 'making it palatable', it has far fewer potential negatives being on a completely dead server than it's potential positives.
Why the commitment issue? Is it that changing a server to FF is really that difficult? Is it a concern that a dead server would still be dead with the change? Too many complications to work out first? Or is it a concern that there are better options out there? The last two concerns I would agree with to a point, there may be better alternatives out there, including changing to 100 tick, doing away with some dead servers ect. But remember we are not talking about changing a successful server in anyway. If a change to FF brings even 10 players a day to Anzio, that would be an improvement.
I guess I just see this as a huge opportunity to bring in a new group of players we have never seen before. I really don't see the downside, maybe I am missing something. Thinking things through is always a good idea, testing the waters is a good thing too. We would be able to iron out any bugs with mods ect. But really this is something that can have an immediate (potentially) impact on our player base. Again, putting this on a dead server is a testing ground. If it's successful, who knows maybe we could switch another dead server over at another time, if not simply roll the two together.
These are all my opinions, I am not trying to pick on anyone or single anyone out. I enjoy the discussion so please keep it coming. Just know that my personal belief is geared more towards action at this point rather than
in my opinion over thinking the issue.
