Admin Integrity

Okay. I've been holding my tongue for awhile, but after tonight I'm just going to go out and say it: If you're an admin, please do your job. When you let people walk all over you, it reflects poorly on eGO.

For those who want to read my thoughts behind the above (everyone else can move on, it's not necessarily important):
I've noticed a painful recurrence of anywhere from 1-5 admins in a server at one time and people being blatantly disrespectful (swearing, racism, admin/server/eGO disrespect, intentional TKs, etc.) on the server and nothing happening about it. This isn't some one-time grievance, either. I've been noticing this for, well, since I joined.

Now, sorry to finally complain about this, as I really don't want to be that guy, but...

The straw that broke the camel's back:
Was playing on eGO server (as always) tonight and someone was yelling "fu***ing fa***s all of you!" etc in open chat. Nobody wants to hear that. So, as I always do regardless of admin presence or no, I tell him to watch the language. His response was something to the extent of "f*** you and your f***ing language, this is a rated M game you f***ing admins you can go f*** a sack of nails." 4 admins in server. I wait. Nothing happens. I actually speak up for the first time: "Wow, no admins are going to do anything about that?" Silence.

Now, here's the thing, and let me get something clear right now: I have thick skin. If you had any idea the life I've led... never mind.
But that's just the thing. I joined eGO because I saw a bunch of people who don't want to listen to all the kids swearing up a storm and being stupid and disrespectful. Didn't know any of you, had no personal interest in it other than "mature respectful gaming community." For the most part, that's what it is and it's great. The best online community I've been a part of for gaming. But what you're doing when you let this kind of crap slide is make a mockery of it all. It's insulting that someone can get away with that kind of behavior in front of four admins where everyone can see. It sends the message "we're not really serious about who we are. Go ahead, mock us."

I like this group. It's been a blast getting to know you. Some of you I've now even gamed with outside of BF3. A lot of you are really, really good admins. This is not about admins on the whole, because many of you are doing a great job. Really, the point of all this is as a reminder that whether you like it or not, with power comes responsibility. When you are in charge of managing a server and you let people walk all over you it reflects poorly on all of us as a community. No, I'm not going to name names good or bad because it's not about that. This is about maintaining integrity as a group.

That is all.

P.S. If you actually took the time to read all my thoughts, I owe you one cookie. Please include "cookie" in your reply, if you choose to reply at all, so that I know who to send them to. If you don't reply, just tell me "cookie" the next time you see me.

First you owe me a cookie.

Second the fact that you realize this after being with us for such a short time speaks volumes.

Third Admins he is correct. If you aren't going to do your job or if you don't want to do your job then you make eGO look bad. If it comes to it I will take your rank for not doing your job. I know chat can be hard to follow cause it sucks but if a member says something in vent and nothing is done then you should be ashamed of yourself.

This post has my 100% approval.

I just have a suggestion, go to the gameME stats and look up his name, you can take a picture of the chat logs for him and report him in the BF3 Ban Request section.
Not the most efficient but it works.

I like cookies. Anyways I love this post. I mean there is no reason for you to be an admin if you are not going to admin. Simple. It gets to the point when I want to shout out your name and say "WHY ARE YOU NOT ADMINING?". If there is no response it makes me want to kick you for afk. jk

I agree very strongly. Too often I find myself joining a server and within a minute or so someone is swearing or using maybe more commonly, using homophobic language which I have no patience for because it's ignorant and simply unacceptable in our gaming community or our society as a whole. I'll wait for a minute to see if one of the admins who's already there will do anything and too many times nothing is said. At that point I put a heavy foot (combat boot) down on the rule breaker with the normal warning and kick if they continue. A couple weeks ago a player blatantly said the full n word over all chat and there was one other admin in the server, an eGO, that could have banned the player right there and then but instead did nothing. I asked him in squad chat "Did you catch that n word in chat?" No response, yet he was running around so obviously not afk.

I think it's important to remember it's just a game, so they can't hurt you. If you kick someone for language and a riot breaks out and 3 other players start swearing at you for kicking the original player, I kick them on the spot. They saw the warning, I've explained the rule, that's it. Kicked. Let someone more mature take their spot in the server.

If you have a G and you let this happen....please fix it...

If you have an O and you let this happen....Please retire...

I approve this thread...

Agreed I always try to admin the language and the racism unless i possibly get caught up in a game, but in saying that i should just stop read the chat box for a sec and continue. Why I pay attention I make sure that chat box is clean but when it comes to tking and things of those nature where I am not there and cant see it, it gets hard because I am relying on that person to voice it and to voice it in all chat because if I am on the RU team and there is a guy tking on the US team and no one uses all chat I am going to have no idea. What I am trying to say is if I see it then I w/k/b but if I dont see it, it is much harder to admin. But I still agree with your point and that me personally have been getting a weeee bit slackesh.

I know that eGO says to play, then admin, speaking from years of experience, I can't do that...lol. I take my admin duties seriously, it is how I was trained to begin with, and I have stuck with it. Though I can't help on the BF3 servers just yet, I do know how you feel.

A statement from a previous thread I posted:

I play to enjoy the company of like-minded individuals and hope to foster that for those that are kind enough to want to give eGO and its community THEIR valuable leisure time. ... and in some cases... their money.

Admin's lack of vigilance in ANY eGO servers... shameful.

We say play first. admin second because we don't want you guys to go into a server for the sole purpose of admining (unless asked of course). We want you to join the server because you want to play there but once you are there you should keep an eye and ear out for rule breakers. Play first, admin second doesn't mean don't admin if it interferes with your playing it means don't go looking for trouble. If you are playing and are on a roll running and gunning pipe up in vent and ask if someone else can handle it.

Same here, I cannot and will not just sit there and be like "whatever I don't care". It's not to hard to play and admin at the same time, however watching chat can be a bit tricky if there is alot of players putting stuff up as we cannot scroll through text in BF3. Oh and you owe me a cookie. :thumbup1:

What a pathetic chat system eh...?... /sigh dice

Great post Kosh. I've seen this as well. I only play on B2K and when I'm on, I'm usually either the only admin, or one of two, and I usually get the warnings and kicks out pretty fast, but there will be times where I'm in the thick of battle, and I see something that needs to be taken care of but I can't find a place to hide to take care of it, and the 2nd admin doesn't do anything.

If that happens, I usually call it out in vent and ask them to take care of it, but sometimes they aren't in vent or don't respond =P. Sorry you had to see this happen Kosh, but hopefully your post will raise some awareness.

^ this. When there's a lot of chat going on, it gets really difficult to admin, but we do our best.

yea chat system can sometimes get bad, but mostly its not always like that just sometimes so it's not to bad.

Lately, when I get time to play, I tend to give out warnings even when there are admins on. Then when they argue our rules, admins ignore that too. Makes e's a little frustrated.

Dont be affraid to speak out in vent. You are sometimes faster on the draw throwing out warnings than me and other admins when we are in the same server but sometimes the chatbox isnt what admis/players are looking at when they're are in the muck of it.

A simple, "Hey man I warned this guy and look at the chatbox" will usually do the trick
