I'm fine with the rule. Unless I was in server with other admins, it'd gotten to the point where I couldn't even play the game because I'd be spending all my time having to monitor players for language. Now I'm able to actually play and enjoy the game. There are much fewer instances where a warning or action is warranted.

However, despite the allowance of casual swearing, I tend to refrain from using adult language when I'm sporting my admin tag. I'm more comfortable in doing so because I think being an admin means that I need to maintain a level of professionalism and maturity above that of lower ranked EGO and non-EGO players. But that's just me.
 
I understand why it was changed but I really feel like it is what separated eGO from the rest.. so not really
 
NO.

Admining is already difficult enough as it is. This new rule multiplies that difficulty by several times. :thumbdown:
 
imo ive been here for 3 months not all as an e but i find it ok to swear as long as its not directed at someone else but hats just me
 
I feel as though it just forces a gray area... from Moderate to a curse word a second... it's a slippery slope.

As an admin (from my understanding), you have the discretion on whether or not you feel the language or the rate of language is too much for the audience in the server. Obviously, with the new rule, you can't just warn someone for one or two bad words, but after that, maybe just throw out a general warning like "Please keep the cursing to a minimum" or something similar to that. Just my two cents. :D

Problem is there are very few admins who are going to use their discretion to determine what is or isn't "excessive." CS admins were trained to let minor swearing go in the heat of the moment, yet I never once saw that happen. I rarely ever saw other admins use their discretion to lighten a punishment, it was always just w/k/b following the rules to a T.
When this first went into effect, there were players on CS who were swearing just because it was now allowed. Swearing just to swear is something I would call excessive, but its far easier for everyone to just ignore and hope someone else handles it. The problem is its going to be harder for admins to use discretion to determine what is excessive, and are just going to resort to ignoring all swearing that isn't cut and dry disrespect.
 
I think most of the experienced admins were mostly doing this already to some degree or another, only admonishing the ones who were really going overboard while regularly reminding everyone to keep it clean. I do believe that there is a lack of tools available within the valve system to actually enforce rules against players determined to be problems. But that's beyond the scope of this organization.
 
In the Battlefield Division, we understand that there are times where the game can get heated and you rage. Swearing is common in chat but rarely is it directed AT someone. It's only when an individual cusses excessively/uncontrollably/unnecessarily in chat or towards someone else that we, as admins, put our foot down.

We have always followed this form of administration and it has always been within the admin's best discrepancy that actions are taken.

Yes others may act earlier or later but the outcome is the same. This new rule simply details and directs the manner of change in society and that EdgeGamers is moving WITH society and the changes that come with it.

It is not a change that we should all be exploding about because as others have already mentioned, admin's in other divisions have already been acting in this way for quite some time.

I joined eight years ago because this was the only place my parents would allow me to play when I was a kid, the only haven in the usually adult-only world that is online gaming.

It is a shame that that space is no longer there for others to enjoy.
 
I generally don't have an issue with it, as long as it's not a tirade directed at someone specifically.
 
I liked the servers for being swearing free, made it a nice experience. That being said rules are rules and will be followed.
 
Why does everyone act like swearing is a new thing and we are changing with the times? Swearing has been around pretty much forever, especially in online gaming. My friends and I swore when we were immature teens in the 80s. This was also so as long as I have been gaming, which is before eGO was founded. Nor have I ever heard anyone complain about how difficult it is to admin swearing. Frankly, if you find adminning too difficult you should remain an e. I would like to know the real reason for the change in policy.

I would add that the effect of the policy change has not been felt yet. Lets see what the community and the servers are like in six months or a year. I suspect that we will see more punks (hackers, trolls, disrespectful jerks, etc) than ever and the admins will be working harder to control the servers.
 
Everyone usually says bad words nowadays so I'm fine with that. The thing that I'm not fine with is cussing in every sentence, I used to do that a lot but since I started playing on eGO a lot I haven't been cussing constantly
