I do not like the rule and I do not make the rules. As a teacher in a private middle school I have had 17 years of discussions with children and parents about online video games and open chat rooms. Even though I could never defend violence in games I was proud to promote eGO and its clean values. With its no swearing, anti-racial, anti gay stand, I could justify the one gaming organization that truly made an effort to protect teen rights to decency. It was told to me and I quote, "Would you want your 13 year old daughter listening to adult trash on line, then using that same language on a public server, or in school, or in your home?"
Some parents of the children that I have taught at my school have interesting jobs, such as the owner of the Boston Red Sox, owner of the Florida Panthers hockey team, and one of the producers of the Tony Award winning show for best musical "Jersey Boys" on Broadway.
I can no longer promote eGO to my students or parents. As far as in-game chat and gaming is concerned we are just like everyone else now.

Woah there homie, eGO has NEVER been "anti-gay". I hope you mean that we do not discriminate against anyone and everyone is welcome. I hope.

Sorry I meant to say this:
"With its no swearing, and human rights protection, I could justify the one gaming organization that truly made an effort to protect teen rights to decency."

I really don't see a problem with swearing. I actually like the new rule. I don't swear that much myself but if some says "shit I died" I don't want to warn for that. He wasn't disrespectful in any way. And in his house hold maybe he was brought up with swearing. And who cares it's words why does it make everyone unhappy. I know "family friendly" but with most of Americans swearing now a days what is "family friendly" now? It just doesn't make sense to me why people are so against swearing. I mean I guess it seems trashy but the thing is if we don't change then how will that affect us? Everyone changes with the times EVERYONE does. it's just another part of culture coming around.

I'm really not sure about how to feel about this rule, when I joined this community 6 years ago, I joined because of no cursing policy, I found some other clans that allowed cursing but no disrespectful cursing to other players.

I feel like this change makes our organization no big difference to other community/clan/organizations, while 6 years ago I did not want to curse, but the society has changed me into a person that curses out of reaction, so while this change does not directly impact me, I'm sure it will impact good portion of players who love the eGO community.

Pretty sound logic actually.

The results of the poll still would be the same if they put it up before/the day the implemented it and now.

same: adjective \ˈsām\
: not different
: exactly like someone or something else
: not changed : exactly like an earlier version, event, etc.
"Same." Merriam-Webster.com. Merriam-Webster, n.d. Web. 2 Sept. 2016.

AKA, the poll is more accurate because of people having a chance to see the effects of the rule change on the community.

more: adjective \ˈmȯr\
: greater in amount, number, or size
: extra or additional
"More." Merriam-Webster.com. Merriam-Webster, n.d. Web. 2 Sept. 2016.

accurate: adjective ac?cu?rate \ˈa-kyə-rət, ˈa-k(ə-)rət\
: free from mistakes or errors
: able to produce results that are correct : not making mistakes
"Accurate." Merriam-Webster.com. Merriam-Webster, n.d. Web. 2 Sept. 2016.

"Same" means the results would not have been different. "Same" means the timing didn't matter."

vs.

"More accurate" in the context it was used implies the results WOULD have been different but were in fact BETTER by waiting. "More accurate" in the context it was used means the timing DID matter.

You broke logic by arguing with yourself. It would have been better to stick to one unsubstantiated claim and ran with it. The biggest problem was that you used broken logic to attack another member with an opposing viewpoint rather than engage them intellectually.

As for referring to you as "bro", you lost my respect immediately when you failed to pay it to my daughter. We came to eGO to separate ourselves from those who conduct themselves without honor - that is the underlying discomfort we have with this new rule set; when we lower the morality bar in one area, how can that not affect other areas of the culture?

The fact that you believe I cared about your respect baffles me. None the less, you still took the time to type this trash out, so I'll fix all of this:

The poll results would remain virtually identical. Anyone with a highschool education who took any type of Pol-Sci class will understand this. Disecting my words and how I stated my argument, instead of contradicting or challenging my argument, proves that what I have stated (Which btw, is again, backed up by any type of polsci research) is proven fact.

Case closed.

Nothing fixed, I'm still not seeing how same = more accurate. But I'll leave it alone; we aren't going to get anywhere near eye to eye on this and civil discord has left the building.

I'll leave my last note saying something nice though; I like your avatar of Bob Ross. :)

Frankly I'm shocked at the behavior of some of our O's here in this topic. As so the point of this thread and poll I dislike the new policy for many of the reasons already stated but it's the new way of things so I'll follow it just deeply saddened that it is.

My apologies if any of this is in reference to my posts to Aaron. I should have enough life experience to know that those exchanges never end well. The poll seems to tell that as a clan we are pretty polarized on the subject even with the time soak. This topic is really close to debating religion or politics with its close proximity to what is morally right and wrong - lots of fireworks with nobody changing anyone's mind.

I regret the poke with the /facepalm gif in particular (Sorry, Aaron - I still disagree with you but that was low on my part) - getting in the mud never solves anything - everyone just get's covered in muck... Anyone with forum admin that wants to remove anything they deem inappropriate from the thread that I have posted may do so with my blessing (not that you need it).

Thank you for putting the poll up, Dr. H.

This is not a yes or no question. The problem I have seen is, in my opinion, is that the admins less inclined to enforce the rule before do nothing now, even when the intent of the new rule (respect) is being violated.

It seems easy to me, and I although I have not sat in on a admin training since the rule change, I would like to know how it is being trained.

if someone says an expletive in response to something that happens to them, like "F*" because they died, and they aren't saying it every time they died, we let it slide.

On the other hand, if someone sayd "F* off" to the person that just killed them, or results to name calling or anything desparingly DIRECTED at another player, that violates the new rules, and deserves the W/K/B. I have not seen this happening. I have seen other eGO members not saying anything.

Anyway, that is my 2 (or 10) cents.

AND, my time on the TF2 servers has gone way down in the last month. Not sure the two are connected. I will have to think about that.

i hear you boyle, and I agree 100%. however, being in the servers a lot since this change, nothing is much different. a slip on the mic, so far, has not happened more than twice or so. there have been trolls, and people that type it out... those are dealt with quickly and escorted out. I think before you swear off eGO, take some time to hang in the servers with the new change. Honestly, and you have my word, knowing me for 4 years now... its very very close to no different at all.

We still dont allow trolls or punks or mic spammers or disrespectful ass hats at all. While many liked our servers because of the no swearing policy, I just want to say this...

The new rule is not a license to swear whenever you feel like it. Its meant to give a little leniency to those who say, on the mic, "Shit!" when the middle was taken, or they got killed from a thompson prone around a corner. That happens anyway, most of the time, but no one can hear it because they are dead. When someone crosses that line verbally, or takes the time to type things out, I admin that. There is a big grey area here, one that allows the admins to have certain discretion on whether the line has been crossed or not. My line is very close to where it was before, so truly, honestly, things are not much different.

Thanks for listening,

Q

At the end of the day, times change. People come and go and new people are always arriving. Some talk one way, some talk another. Swearing is in our everyday lives and whether we see it in a game or not depends on the maturity of players in that particular game.

More fast paced, aggressive and frustrating games like our FPS Divisions will see more swearing than those like G-Mod or MC because of the type of game it is.

At the end of the day if you respect the new language rule in place and understand its position, then there should be no issues or worries. Admin discretion has always been a thing and it is your call as a mature and professional admin to call the shots based on the new rule.

im fine with the new rule but don't us it as excuse and blatantly cuss in game

I cringe over some of the language I see in BF4 these days. I would prefer it was not there but realize its not a kids game.
Enforcing rules over respect makes sense and aligns with what I have been doing since I became an admin. I would warn if language got out of control anyway and kick for adult content but most heat of the moment stuff I let go. Personal attacks of any kind should not be allowed.
Would I prefer tighter rules? Yes but feel we would have trouble getting predictable enforcement. I already get some harassment for babysitting those with more colorful chat discussions. consistency is what players need to fell Ego is fair.

Personal attacks of any kind should not be allowed.

They aren't. No where in the new policy does it say that you can now disrespect players. If you knew this, I apologize, but your use of the word "should" is weird.

Many people have mentioned how they cringe or are disgusted with the language on the servers now. By the sounds of it, it seems that players are being excessive (WHICH IS AGAINST THE RULES). If I were still around and admining I'd probably put a limit of 3 foul words within a short period of time per player (2-5 minutes). After 3, I'd personally consider that excessive, which is reasonable since EGO does offer that discretion that many of the members have expressed.

Obviously the language rule doesn't allow you to throw out offensive words (homophobic or racial slurs). The rule of thumb with this rule, which has always been the way in Battlefield, is "cursing is allowed, but excessive or disrespectful cursing is not."

As an admin (from my understanding), you have the discretion on whether or not you feel the language or the rate of language is too much for the audience in the server. Obviously, with the new rule, you can't just warn someone for one or two bad words, but after that, maybe just throw out a general warning like "Please keep the cursing to a minimum" or something similar to that. Just my two cents. :D
