Many of you may be aware of the differences between true randomness and pseudo randomness, so for those people I apologize, but I'm going to explain my thoughts on this issue anyway.

Firstly, let me preface this by saying, I am not an expert at this at all, in fact I rather dislike math. That being said, I'm sick of nights where I play TTT for literally hours, only to have to endure round after round of being an inno or D. Tonight was like that. I played for maybe 3 and a half full hours, spanning several maps. I finally managed to get two t rounds with an interval of an inno round between them as my last three rounds before I was so fed up that I got off.

As far as I know, your chances of being T have nothing to do with karma. This is what I have been told. Everyone should theoretically have an equal chance of being T. However, I often find myself getting numerous inno rounds while I watch others get t round after t round in quick succession. Of course, I've been on the reverse end as well. Sometimes I'll hear complaints about others not getting t rounds while I get several very quickly.

SKIP TO HERE FOR THE REAL STUFF IF YOU WANT

This is the heart of the issue, and it's simply that true randomness is often not fair. A truly random selection at the beginning of every round means someone get literally get t every single round and his chances of t would remain the same because the chance of being a t does not change and its decided at the start of a round. This leads to many situations where people feel like they never get t.

To solve this issue I propose that some sort of psuedo random selection system is put into place. A system that would be able to see how many people were online, and then only give t rounds out to those who hadn't had it the round previously. When the server is at max capacity there would probably have to be an even larger round gap, so 3 maybe even 4 or 5 rounds, depending on the amount of ts chosen. While this may sound complicated, it would ensure that no matter what, you are guaranteed a t round within a certain amount of rounds.

In conclusion, let me clarify that I'm not complaining that I never get t because I went 2 or 3 rounds without t, or because I suck at t or something and want more t rounds. I'm suggesting a change because myself and I'm sure many others have experienced days where we go literal hours without getting a t round. This is unacceptable, and I beg the mod/dev team to create a fairer t selection system for everyone.

Hello, V Vulpez

We of admins on the servers we already know that its unfair but that just how the game works, and for those that says good karma = Traitor its not true its so random and people get lucky, and i can see peoples frustations when they go on the server for 1 hour 30min and nothing, but i just have concluded its just about lucky, me myself idc if i dont get Traitor for i got other stuff to do anyway, but we have known this for a long time, and we could move this thread here to suggestions area, or you could make a new post and make a suggestion here about it https://www.edge-gamers.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?1344-Suggestions i dont mind spice the T's a bit more random, but in my theory its just pure luck to get it

Moving it to suggestions is fine by me. If it's a known issue,.has.anyone at least tried to fix it? Surely you guys know true randomness will never be very fair.

you are right at that point, but i belive tech team got other big plans to do, so it might me a low priority, but i do hope they can and maybe find a better way, but lets see what other peoples opinions is for, i want to see more new players too to be a Traitor so they can learn the role and know what it looks like, and ofcourse the Detective its also random but not too random sometimes people be a Detective for sevreal rounds in a round, so lets see about it

you guys are boring, and it was meant for opinions, not this and admins cant give T rounds but i think LE can though xD

Madcat1337 are you really still mad, at me, and know your new intentions is to dislike all my comments or post, thats so childish for you, be glad i dont report you

I wouldn't say unacceptable, more of suboptimal, however there is a problem: How would we prevent people abusing leaving and rejoining to get additional T rounds? We would have to store additional player data on the server to combat this which brings up a second question how long would this data be stored? End of map, end of time, 30 mins?

Most importantly:
The server is not broken, so why should we fix it?

Is not the server's fault. Is just the system of choosing players, that's all. I don't mind being an innocent or detective 20 times in a row.

Fixing that would be great (even tho I acknowledge there's much more that needs to be changed or fixed as TTT is not the only server), cause it really sounds weird and imbalanced on how Ts are handled out. I have been in a couple rare lucky occasions where I did get Traitor as a role 5-6 times in a row (!), but the other side of being an innocent has been far worse and more frequent (which is logical to some extent due to how the D/T/I ratio works (though not getting T not even once in 32 (!) consecutive rounds is kinda disappointing).

What would be great is if we can change the code to make it that it would count how many rounds has a user been on (First couple rounds everyone is equal anyway, so there it would be just random), in order to get a chance at getting Traitor (if he quits his chances of getting Traitor are getting diminished [since he has quitted/retried/reloged/crashed] and reset to zero, starting a cycle of grinding rounds to have a chance to get it again (X+~2-4 rounds depending on current server population). Also this way none will exploit by just relogging since the ammount of X rounds you will need to get a Traitor round will vary but to a much more limited number than the way it works now. This way things will be still less predictable (you wont be able to count down rounds in order to kill certain people), and far better for everyone to get a chance over being a T (even prevent some troll accounts that join just to rdm in some way by making kills legit).

That being said, Detective can be modified accordingly to a similar pattern and also we could have some more parameters into the equation if we want to spice up things on how someone gets Traitor in TTT.

I committed a commit that push detectives and innocents 2 times into the players array. This change should be tested before it can go live (because eGo use an pretty old TTT Version). JuVe913 JuVe913 but any math are calculable if the player knows how it works. And by pushing players two times into the array, is the order of players every round different (without any math or so). I didn't really heard bad feedback with that change.

Probably could be but this is why it should be a random but still specific number of rounds (eg You get Traitor after each 4 rounds at start, then after 3, then after 5 and so on), which would somewhat balance things in terms of everyone having a chance at playing as a T. After all, let's not forget that everyone is suspecting everyone at all times at the current stage, and that wouldn't change if such a change could be implented now, so I think it wouldn't hurt as much. (Remember, I am not suggesting it should be the same number every time, cause I know that this could increase random deathmatch as people would know who would be T each round).

how is it unfair? on average you will have just as many t rounds as anyone else. if you play many hours you will have times where you're hardly the t and times where you're always the t. however, most of the time you'll be t an average amount of times. i don't see the problem.
