What rates do you guys/girls use for the eGo servers?

I use:
rate 25000
cl_updaterate 30
cl_cmdrate 45
cl_interp 0.06
cl_interp_ratio 1

Anyone else you custom settings for better bullet registration?

rate 30000
cl_updaterate 100
cl_cmdrate 100
cl_interp 0.015
cl_interp_ratio 1

I have never found it hurts to set them to over compensate, because the servers will limit settings if they feel it's necessary. eGO servers limit cl_updaterate and cl_cmdrate to ~66 iirc, and rate to 25000.

Care to explain to us who have no bloody idea what the heck you guys are talking about?:P

Rate is how fast you recieve bytes of information from the server. cl_updaterate is how many game packets per second you try to request from the server. cl_cmdrate is how many command packets per second you try to send the server. cl_interp_ratio is your interpolation ratio. cl_interp should be your update rate over your interp ratio. But since most of the servers I play are a 66 tick, I leave my interp set for 66 tick servers.

(I'm just going off the top of my head, if anyone cares to correct me, feel free)

what difference does this make, does it actually improve hit registration or something?

In a sense, yes. The more information that you send and receive to the server, the more accurate everything you see is and what you're trying to do it.

I have never needed to change any of this because my game has always run flawless. Is there some real proof that changing any of this really makes a difference? I do not want to muck with any those settings without a good reason.

My advice - don't. I tried messing with my rates and just ended screwing my lag up even worse.

If it works, don't fix it. :)

That's not just eGO servers. I believe all TF2 servers use a hard-coded 66 tick rate (unlike CounterStrike and other games, where tick rate can vary). You can't get more than 66 commands in a second, so setting it to 100 is just increasing your choke for no reason.

Mine are:
Code:
rate 25000
cl_updaterate 66
cl_cmdrate 66
cl_interp 0.033
cl_interp_ratio 2 (default)

And yes, it really does help certain things.

Atten: If it made things more laggy for you, then my first bit of advice is if (cl_interp * cl_interp_ratio > ping) then it gets pretty ugly quite quickly. Also, if your FPS drops below these values (66 fps with my settings), then you're going to get lag.

For all, some of the better links I've found on this:

One more thing: The multi-core update made a HUGE difference in FPS for me, so try it out for yourselves if you have a multi-core box and haven't yet. My minimum FPS (in busy firefights) went up by 60% on my quad-core.
Code:
mat_queue_mode 2 (-2 is to turn it all off)

Can someone please translate that gibberish for those of us who's first language is english?

:D

*shrug*

As I said, I was going off the top of my head, so I wasn't sure. As for increasing my choke, I can't say that I've ever had a problem with it, considering that the servers force the 66 setting anyway.
