Quotas? Big thumbs down. I agree with most that was said against them.

As far as the application process goes....The last few people I referred had a hard time figuring out everything. Most people don't know how to even get their steam ID. I don't know... maybe they just don't know how to follow directions or it's too complicated for them? Either way, good luck getting them to read all the stickies.

I have to say the idea on vent is a pretty good one, but the mandatory meetings are a very upsetting thought especially for people like me and featherfoot07 who have terrible little satellite internet that barely works on a good day. After chatting it up with featherfoot07 (who is sitting across from me right now) the quota seems like something that would cause alot of good people that were in the wrong place, wrong time so to speak to get banned.

Some ideas i like but to be honest alot i dont.
First the bad ones.
- The vent idea is good trying to make people come together is a good idea, but you cant force it. Like by taking away private rooms for eG, eGO. Sometimes people just dont want to be botherd by lots of people.
- Mandatory events? Like beta said we have members all over the world and this would be unfair.
- Quotas. As soon as i heard this it felt like a job. Meeting quotas would take alot of fun out of being an eG/eGO, we should have the option to join extra curiculer things no have it be forced on us

Good.
Vent should be cleaned up yes. (With priv rooms though)

Disagree:
Quotas: They're just a bad idea. We don't need to pressure people. We're supposed to be here to have fun, and that's a great way to kill it.
Mandatory meetings: Sometimes...you just don't need a meeting. Also, I don't think we need to avoid sending PMs like the one we have here...I mean, look at all the feedback we're receiving from this. It can be difficult to get everyones opinion in the meetings as we have limited time.

Somewhat agree:
Vent: I do like the idea of putting the general rooms at the bottom of vent instead of at the top, it makes people explore the whole thing. On the other hand, I don't think we need to remove the private channels we already have, they're pretty useful.

I agree with everything except quotas and mandatory meetings.

As a pro-opera singer and university student who works a pizza shop on the side i cant make it to all the meetings. It doesn't mean that i dont do my part. To have a quota to meet every month would put unnecessary pressure on eG's and eGO's. The primary reason why we are here is to provide a friendly mature gaming community who's objectives include having fun, keeping clean servers, and addressing problems that may arise. If by having to meet a quota every month takes away from the aspect of fun then whats the point.

About the mandatory meeting, i can tell you right now that when opera season starts in October i am going to be extremely busy. So whoever came up with the mandatory meeting idea didn't quite think about the people who are studying and working.

No offence, its a great idea, but not a realistic one.

FIRST - Mandatory Meetings

It ain't gonna happen. The meetings are usually too late for working stiffs in the Eastern Time zone. Required attendence. It is to laugh.

SECOND - QUOTAS - I know this sounds rediculous, But JohnT and Artimus want a great quality community. and with Great Quality comes work. Everyone seems to have this mentality that the orginazation runs itself, and thats NOT the case.
There needs to be certain QUOTAS that need to be met by higher authority so we know that they are doing their
job instead of sitting around watching eGO COM. go into flames.

Quotas on what? Ban reviews? Promotions? Poll of the week? It's hard enough to get volunteers to give up their time without inflicting time management requirements. For those who have not yet noticed; Edge Gamers is not for profit and it certainly isn't a democracy. Dollars to doughnuts our higher authorities significant others think that too much time is being spent on eGO already. We're in no position to hold them accountable. Express gratitude, you betcha.

THIRD - Application Process - I know we have an "Open Door Policy" Where anyone can join eGO.
We don't. People can be and are rejected. The bar may not be very high but it is there.

I can't do mandatory meetings, I have done everything I can but Vent doesn't work for me, It crashes whenever I try to set it up... :|

meeting : meh like most have said it would be to hard to coordinate with everyones lives and the internationalness( :/ ) of our community.

Quota : I thnk it would depend on waht they would include as far as what would be kept track of.

Applications/promotions : i agree with just about everything the author said, i know i was promoted about 3 weeks after i joined eGO and i barely knew any of my higher ups.. but over the 2 or 3 months to follow i got to know everyone well and they me, then i was afk for about 7 months and i get to start all over with meetin alot of new peeps and showin them who i am and what i can do... i wouldnt expect a promo jsut cus oh look im here again and ive been with the commmunity so long wheres my O.

Vent : i liked his ideas and i like the way vent looks now.. alot cleaner lookin imo.

Couldn't have said it any better, exactly what I was going to say. The vent ideas are good. But overall this seems like is from someone that feels past over. And I get this feeling from the "FOURTH - Promotion Process" and how it is worded. Maybe wrong just the feeling I get. But, they way things are now are great. We have a bunch of great dedicated people that just want to have fun, when It starts to feel like a work place I think that is where the fun ends. Relax have fun and happy fraggin!

Mandatory meetings is a bad idea for plain reasons. A better idea would be a podcast and/or blog from the Community Managers and Council, which would welcome listener/reader input. People could send in soundbites with questions or concerns, and you could address them for everyone to hear.

As for quota, I don't think he meant a kick/ban quota; I think he meant a quota of actual time spent moderating, interacting with the community, and working within the clan. We could use SOMETHING like this, but it falls apart a bit if someone gets really busy/tech problems.

I agree about recruitment. Most recruits don't really take any steps to become part of the clan, other than wearing tags. They're pretty faceless. If they aren't going to do anything but play on the servers, why join the clan in the first place? There's no difference. There are a lot of people who join and never post.

And yeah, vent could use some reorganization.

The clan as it is? Good. I think it could be even better, though.

Since people are coming up with every excuse they can think of for why they cant make meetings already without it being implemented, why not cross reference those that are ingame while meetings are taking place.

I have been to the 2 meetings that we have had since I joined and there were people I was sitting there playing with in eGO that didnt take the time to tab out and jump on vent to listen to what was going on.

I disagree with the mandatory meetings. I enjoy eGO so much because it is a very laid back and friendly environment. Yes, you need to stay active on the forums and keep up with the latest news and changes, especially as an eGO, but enforcing mandatory things isn't the best idea. I already have my hands full with the Recruiters and Event Coordinators, and I enjoy that immensely, but I don't need more mandatory things thrown at me.

I also disagree with having to go through a great amount of effort just to become an e. The whole idea behind the e rank is what it's called, "recruit." Nobody is supposed to be an e forever. It's supposed to be a trial, and THIS is where you get to know the person. Our process for promoting people is perfect imo. We accept them on a 'trial' basis as a recruit, and then the senior members and leadership watch them and get to know them.

This also leads into your false assumptions of promotions. This is a HUGE community, so naturally some will be promoted when they are not ready and such. But leadership does an amazing job in picking the right people. Check out the ratio of Advisors and up to e's and eG's. There are a lot of people that need to be looked at. Some good admins are sometimes looked over, but it's rare, and it will most likely be fixed by the next round of promotions. They do not just draw names from a hat based on time spent in eGO. Yes there have been some people that have flown through the ranks quickly, but if you haven't noticed, they stay at their rank, which means they are doing a fine job.

I do agree that our vent is a disaster though. His/her idea is a tad cleaner.

And to those of you saying that the quota idea is a bad idea because we would have to meet a quota of banning people...where are you reading that? I'm seeing that he's talking about deadlines that have to do with leadership. I don't see any mention of eGO's meeting a banning quota. I think leadership does a good job of telling the community what's going on when they feel we're ready to know.

And honestly, maybe I'm not involved enough or something, but I don't feel like eGO is going down in flames at all. If you're basing this off of going down in server rank a bit, then that has nothing to do with the community being destroyed. Yes, that could lead to loss of sponsors, but right now, it seems like we're doing just fine. And on top of all of that, I think we have plenty of members dedicated enough to pull eGO through any crisis, including a financial crisis.

I agree with everything except for the mandatory vent meetings. Sometimes, not everyone can be there. I especially like the vent cleanup and new e screening process. Our vent is so complicated, and I just hate using it, the only time I use it is for meetings. Otherwise, half the rooms are empty, because there are too many rooms. As for the applications, I do suggest that e's should have to sign off on the rules, and actually read them first, because like said in the post, I see a lot of e's that I know do not belong in eGO, or don't actually care about the community.

Welp, Council has weighed in on all this. Thanks for playing everyone.

tiddy wins.

Also, jeod had it right. Do people get promoted really quickly sometimes while others get looked over? Yap, that can happen. Do the people that get promoted deserve it? Yes, otherwise they wouldn't be on the list. Yeah, people slip through the cracks from time to time. But when you think about it - the ratio of good to bad is pretty legit.

Agree with Vent comments.

Disagree with everything else - either we already have a good system in place or things are being worked on to improve the system per leadership's direction.

Sometimes, the sky really isn't falling...

Wow. You got in my mind. This is nearly identical to what I was going to say, especially the mandatory meetings. Except I'm busy with RL stuff. VERY busy. I can't say how much I would hate mandatory meetings.

Just an idea im throwing out there, maybe something to bring up at next meeting. And i know this kind of changes everything, but instead of just an open door policy accepting everyone, then kicking who we dont like, i think we should have an application acceptance step before they get their e. In the old policy, an e can make trouble in the servers, or other servers and make eGO look bad before we have the chance to boot him/her. During the application process, if they are a bad seed, theres no harm done to eGO's image. I know thi sidea is way out there, but just something to think about. If yuo want, i can bring it up at the next meeting.

I agree with the Vent idea since it's more organized and easier to find the rooms for each division. I disagree with mandatory meetings though, due to the fact that some many not be able to attend due to stuff going on in RL.

I think that maybe we should give our council a bit more playing time so that they can come down in the channels with us. This is a GAMING community after all. Sure. There is some government and business stuff that must be attended to, BUT if we are getting bogged down in that side of things, we need restructuring.

Mandatory Meeting? Maybe for our leadership so that everyone gets on the same page, but, once again, this is a gaming community. Let's get back to gaming.

Promotion Process - Now, I will say that for the most part our promotions system is run fairly and is working just fine. BUT, I have seen many different people come into the community come in and get promoted just for being in the server at the right time or going to a meeting. Sure, that's fun and cute and all, but, for the most part, that causes a lot of problems. The main issue I see is that those admins do not really know how things run at all because they haven't been around long enough.
I think that there should be some kind of wait-to-promote process instead of promote whenever. The higher admins would get to actually know a person instead of having that "good feeling" from a first impression. Sometimes that could really bite us in the butt. Also, that way people could really get used to the way we usually do things around here.

What kind of quotas does a gaming community need? How long an admin sits in a server or admins a server? We're here TO PLAY GAMES!
