I'm thinking I might go to the darkside and get a Honda. My 2002 Mustang V6 is getting 12 (yes, 12) mpg. I have to fill it up 2-3 times a week and that's even if I ride to work 2-3 days (which is getting harder to do since when I leave the house now it's mid 40's..... not fun). It's at 74,000 miles and close to death.

I'm looking at getting a 2008 Civic LX coupe. I can get one for ~$18,000 msrp. According to kbb I can get ~$5,500 for my Mustang. So payments on a new civic would be somewhere around $300-400 a month which is easily do-able.

Only problem is that new Civics are 'the most stolen cars in Austin' so that will impact insurance. But still, insurance+gas in a Civic is a hell of a lot less than insurance+gas for a Mustang.

Anyone want to help me with some input on this car? I've got a few friends that have 07's and they love them. I've driven one of them a few times and it's a fun car. Anyone have any opinions (other than 'omz h0nda sux0rz') or experience?

Well, if you have a Mustang, a Civic will be a huge change. It is a performance vehicle. So, switching to a Civic, which you can do sooo much with performace and body wise, will not be as fun =(

But, on the other hand you will be saving great deals of gas, 12mpg to 26-30mpg will be a huge difference. I would suggest changing your air filter on the Intake for the Mustang, it makes a huge difference. Most likely already know, but 12 mpg is hilarious :p

I've driven a few of them and the handling and the ride is very nice. Along with the quality of the interior. Most are rather compact which makes it easy to park and quick manuvering.

Not much detail, obvious stuff. But a little re-assurance always helps =)

Great car

Honda's are great cars. I think the reason they are easily stolen is the fact that people choose to modify them. They are so worldwide and have such easy parts to modify. They do get awesome mpg both highway and city streets. With the newer ones I don't think the stolen issue is much of a problem. Just watch where you park it and always keep it locked.

I've done some work to the Mustang. K&N FIPK2 intake, true dual exhaust w/ Flowmaster pipes, and a VERY nice sound system. The car inhales fine, it just sucks gas for some reason. Plus, it's only a V6 - it's not really a performer. I'm running a little over 210 hp right now.

In all honesty, I wouldn't do much work to a Civic. A metallica bumper sticker, tint, and maybe the factory body kit accessory. I'm looking for a good daily driver that's fun to drive. I can get my kicks on the VROD.

The only way to fix the mustang is to drop about $3,000.

Well, its good to know that you know what you are talking about. Too many people have no idea and just go and screw everything up :p

Thats really strange though, fuel injectors pumping too much? Too much fun and gunning it around every corner possible? =p Those are basically the only things i can think about, your fuel pump, filters, and driver. Ha, 12mpg is for Hummers! Lol.

A Civic should be a good fit. They are most reliable economy car out there

Civica are ok, but if you are truely buying the car for a daily driver I would suggest looking into an Accord. I worked in a garage for 2 1/2 summers and one winter - Accords and Camrys are the two most reliable cars made. By that I mean from the stand point that here in new england over a period of several decades they require the least ammount of work.

Plus accords are full size so it would be similar to the mustang spacewise. It might help your insurrance as well if what you said was true. But if that doesnt interest you civics are pretty good too.

I have an 05 accord coupe V6. It gets me 18 in town, 30 on the highway. Btw i drive hard!!!! Minimum cruising speed for me is like 75-85mph. I love the car. I tried a civic at the dealer, but couldnt fit. Im 6'4 1/2". Love my car. As for performance, im putting out 240hp stock. Wipes v6 stangs and almost keeps with the v8's. Hondas are very good, reliable cars, and as you've mentioned, you dont have to break the bank to get one. I would recommend the accord. the base LX Accord coupe starts at 21,000 msrp....

Bought a lot of cars, best I have ever owned and most reliable are Hondas Hands Down! For the foreseeable future I won't own anything else... MOP you are thinking smart!! I own an accord and a civic and both are great cars.

I cannot stand Civics.

If you ask me, I'd get an Accord at least, they're less popular, but having them stolen isn't as big a problem.

I've got a neighbor with an Accord and he says it's the best car he's ever owned. Not only that but (from what I've heard, don't hold me to it if I'm wrong) the hybrid version of the Accord is a bit better than the hybrid version of the Civic, if you're looking into a hybrid for a lot more gas mileage.

These, however, are merely my opinions on the matter. It's your call in the end.

I'm pretty much dead set on it at this point. I've been crunching numbers all night, to the point where I can't sleep. Insurance, finance, different values I can get for the Mustang, etc. At this point I'm leaning more toward the EX because it seems like a better bang for the buck. Better sound system which is REAL important for me as much music as I listen to, sun roof, better interior, and a 60/40 folding rear seat so I can fit a hardshell P-Bass case in the trunk and still have room for my GK cab in the back seat.

I crunched the numbers on an Accord as well but the Civic looks like a better buy for what I want. I'm going down to a local dealership on Saturday. A friend of mine is a dealer there. If they have a dark blue EX coupe on the lot then I'm screwed. :P

I DO NOT want leather. For one thing it's hot as hell in a Texas summer and, the major reason, it would get trashed the first gig I had to haul gear to.

Lol! MOP in a Honda! You need to upload a photo of that once it's in the bag...! But seriously, 12 mpg is quite insane! Practicality ftw, at least on weekdays! ;)

MOP! I didn't know you played bass!! I play keys, Arti-drums, you- bass, all we need is a guitar.
Now, if Pick Em would only write the words...

Hey mop, I sold cars for 8 years and Have been in the Service department for 2 years (garden grove is also in the sevice department in his town.) I would love to help you in any way I can from the begging of your quest and would even (in private discuss) talk about the deal they are offering
I have appraised cars, diagnosed cars, sold cars and financed cars.
So anything you would Like for me to help with I would be More than happy to assist.
first of all make sure you look at all makes of vehicles and then find the one you really want and is compatible with what you need. if the honda is it pm me and I will give you actual cost on the vehicle as per equipment and trade in value in your area. then pm me with the offer of the dealership.
I will make sure you get the better end of the car deal.
Not that I think you couldnt do it but sometimes getting outside profesional advice makes the stress of buying a car less painful.
Let me know How to help
=Lucky=

I hate buy/selling cars. its such a pain in the butt.
