Not only is there no dedicated servers. If your PC crashes while in game it RESETS YOUR RANK!

I've searched this far and wide with no help

if anyone can help please do.

Same here. It's happened once.

Only time I lost my rank was when I prestiged.

Well I'm pretty sure the stats are stored in your Steam account and not a file (to prevent hacking) So, it could have been a Steam error.

Yes, this is an issue with Steamworks and the game itself.

Your rank does tie with Steam Cloud, but you have 2 files in your Steam folder with the COD game that co-exist with what Steam Cloud does. When you crash out the game there is a small chance that there could be an error that prevents writing your rank and deletes everything. You cannot backup these files because they update all the time with Steam Cloud.

wow thats really helpful :glare:

I was more pointing out the "not only does it not have dedicated servers" part because I'm sick of people whining about that.
I do apologize for not actually contributing to helping with your problem though.

Putty, people come here for help. Im sure he has already tried IW and Steam. I have lost my complete inventory in TF2 a couple times, finding it fine after restarting steam. Otherwise, at least people wont know how killer you really are lol. I know its irritating, but look at it this way.. You will be less likely to become tired of the game now that you get to start all over lol.

I'd throw my machine out the window on the freeway if i lost my Spec ops completion. Just finished Echo Explosive veteran last nite ... whatta blast .

I would give my machine and a few body parts to get MW2 EGO servers.

If you have recently lost stats or rank in this game, you may be able to recover this information as outlined:

Go to the Steam folder and find the Modern Warfare 2 install folder
Default location: C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\common\call of duty modern warfare 2\
Open the \players\ folder
The multiplayer profile is updated regularly as a .stat file and also includes a backup file.
All original profile files begin with md202ef8d and backup files will begin with md202ef8d.bak
Locate the profile and backup .stat files with the most recent "Date Modified" listed in Windows
Move the profile .stat file to a new location (Creating a new folder and placing it here should be fine)
Rename the backup .stat file and remove the ".bak" from the filename
Launch Steam and re-test this game.
