i7 940 @ 4.0ghz+

Go ahead and get it. And let me know how it works out so I know the next time I want a cheap i7 rig.

All I know is that I would not invest my money in that board. $40 is less than a days work for most people, even part timers like me.

wat did you get/recommend?? an Asus P6t?? I was gonna get it but i mean its $80 more and the Foxconn board is meant for overclocking and such and it seems to have done fairly well........beats an Asus P6T SE (i know this one sucks) and it does SLI/CFX all for $160....its usually $200

lol no i7 rig is actually cheap tho......im still spending almost $700 on this thing but that includes CPU cooler. Idk i understand where your coming from but i dont see the problem when the board is getting pretty good reviews and is at a perfect price

wat do u suggest i get?
 
This is the cheapest board I would be comfortable buying.

Well, and then there is the EVGA x58 Micro, which is the same price, and fine if you don't plan on doing more than 2 cards.

Or the EVGA X58 LE for 240, but with a $20 MIR.

Question: You think the NH-D14 will block DIMM slots and the Super Talent heatsinks are too tall?? or will it fit??
 
Not sure, but I would try to get RAM without tall heatsinks.

BTW, you should probably get a 1600 kit instead anyways.

ill look into it.....idk super talent is pretty good and DDR3 1800 doesnt seem to bad

are there problems with the 1800 speeds and i7???

Running high overclocks with RAM frequencies greater than 1600 CAN get tricky(Not really bad until you try for 2000 though). IMO, a 1600Mhz kit with lower latencies > an 1800Mhz kit with higher latencies.

I have that RAM, its pretty freakin' sweet. And you have plenty of clearance with the NH-D14. I only had a problem with my old Corsair RAM, because it had the extended heatsinks.

And I don't see a problem with that mobo. It supports 1600MHz natively for RAM, which is awesome.

these look any good??? shouldnt have any clearance problems with these.....noctua states 44mm clearance between ram slot and fan

basically almost anything with heatsinks like the dominator won't fit unless u take the extra top heatsinks off

thats the ram i have also, except the 4gb pack but it was easily the best speeds/timings for the price. it also allows for better clearance since there isn't a huge junk of a heatsink sitting on the top of it

i got them parts for my core i7 920 and i got that just over 4.00ghz and i could still get more out of it and the cooling wasnt a issue at all...
 
yea....too bad the NH-D14 is better lol

Also, anyone know how to lap heatsinks and the CPU??? if ya do, give me some tips and like what to do and such....if its not too difficult i might want to do it

Just curious, but where do you find the C0 or D0 listed? I ran CPU-Z and all I got was:

Family: 6
Model: A
Stepping: 5
Family Ext: 6
Model Ext: 1A
Revision: (blank)

i7 920 Nehalem rated at 2.67ghz but getting 2.79ghz at stock voltage

download CPU-Z and then you will see what stepping you are....should be on the front page right when u load it up

maybe i shouldnt lap the CPU........its probably not needed as my temps will be fine at 4.0ghz+ on a 920 D0 stepping

C0 or D0 is the Revision. The next thing to the right of Model Ext
 
Okay well I was using an extremely old version of CPU-Z, because the revision was blank.. Just got the latest version and now it shows Revision: D0.. woots

Also, I have the Bloomfield core.. LMAO the old version of CPU-Z said I was Nehalem..
