Its been a few months since the war update and I don't think the whole war was needed, it was fun but the gunboats are awful. So, do you think it was worth it? what do you think the demo weapon would have been?

They still might modify the gunboats to make them worth losing the shotgun/buff banner, but the main idea of the war was to build hype for the soldier/demo update which it did indeed accomplish.

The Gunboats would've been even more useless for the Demo, unless you could replace your Grenade Launcher with them. Even then it would've been a pretty poor trade. At least a few Soldier find the Gunboats fun.

But yush. The War was fun. Even though I didn't contribute all that much, it was still fun to match up against Demos. ^_^

Of course it wasn't needed, thats not the right question. Was it fun? Hell yes.

War? Huh...yeah...what is it good for? Absolutely nothing.

Good God.

The gunboats wold have been much better on the demoman (assuming it didn't replace the sticky launcher), as his sticky jump would be much more effective if he could survive 3 or even 4 sticky bombs. The War update was good, but the demoman should have won.

for the demo it would've actually been worth giving up the regular grenade launcher to be able to double sticky jump and still have an appreciable amount of health, not too worth it for the soldier.

Oh, except last night I found something that the gunboats are extremely helpful for... Basketball

Carmine pretty much sums it up. I was a bit disappointed at the gunboats though. come to think of it they would of been a great tool for the demoman.

The war was just a way to deliver an another update in a new and innovative way. And Blackbird, it's the Soldier VS Demoman war that took place before the update.

Okay, I know you guys are saying that the gunboats are better for the demoman, but if the demoman had won, it kinda seems like they would have been better for the soldier.
Try to pretend the demohad won.
But.... no. it wasnt needed.

I fully support giving gunboats to the demoman, but only if they would take the slot of his sticky launcher. Yeah, that's right, lern2grenjump. Get some skill, n00bs :P

I see a lot of people saying that the gunboats are trash, and, while they're arguably the worst of the unlockables in the update, and probably the least useful overall until they get a buff, the point of the war wasn't to introduce the gunboats alone. It was to get people excited for the Soldier and Demoman update overall--similar to what they did for the Spy update, by sinking it straight into the back of the Sniper update (...pun intended?). Basically, the way the updates were delivered sent waves through the Steam community, and the TF2 community, which is exactly what Valve wanted. They got popularity, they put their game up for free for a weekend, and more people boguht their game.

Also, IMO? The gunboats suck. But I support the war update.

The war accomplished its intended purpose - to generate excitement about an update too long in the making.

As for the gunboats, I'd use them sometimes if they actually worked. At least 50% of the time they don't work at all (neither the rocketjump effect nor the self damage effect).

Demoknights are so easy to kill, the only unlock that's worth using for the Soldier is the pickaxe. loldirecthit.

Yeah, but the fact that they made a WoW tank and still call it a demoman, even if it killed some sticky spamming, annoys me. And the unlocks in general were stupid.
