If you have, and use Realteks high Definitions latest drivers/software the are ways to partition speakers. And to set individual speaks as certain speakers, meaning you have the ability to make it true 5.1. Also, if you have any skills with wires you could take 2 pairs of broken earphones, snip their jacks from them, snip the earbuds jacks off, merge the wires, one out put for each earbud, and viola. True 5.1. Though, what I would do, is merge all of the wires into one, buy some wire protectors from newegg and still have true 5.1 surround sound. And rather than buy new headphones, buy some padding, then some elastic material, needle and thread, then you're on your way to making your own headphones.

If your computer doesn't have the software, I'll look up some freeware to provide you all with this tool. It's nice to have.
It's just hard not to think about, knowing that we have the expertise to do this all in one area.
