First I'd like to thank all those in EGO that put forth the effort to setup the servers and the forums, the time you sacrifice is always appreciated.

As a staunch fan and player of BF2, I have enjoyed some great game play in Bad Company 2 over the past few days and i have witnessed some great teamwork.

I have also witnessed what can only be described as poor etiquette.

EA's Battlefield games have a unique combination of stationary bases, mobile spawn points (squad leaders), and game styles.

This system, which creates a rich gameplay enviroment, also creates many opportunites for abuse.

  • Spawn ganking uncappable bases with armour/air craft
  • Sniping into uncappable bases
  • Stealing armour/air craft from opposing bases

These issues can easily be addressed in this game, and many gaming groups who ran BF2 servers found ways to handle these issues.

The game is new, the servers are new, and we do not have any admins yet, so these issues can be hard to address initially.

However, we have a great pool of talent here, and I would like to start a constructive dialogue on how our servers will be run, what our rules will be?

These issues may have been discussed elsewhere, but I haven't seen any posts to that effect yet.

Addressing these issues early will allow us to build friendly servers that promote teamwork and allow us to capture more regular players that may be looking for a more mature game play style.

I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Firstly, please dont use the word "rape". We do not allow it in our servers and we hold the same standards for our forums. It can be viewed as offiensive to some of our members.

Secondly, rules shuch as these come with time. They also depend on the map, in the game type rush it is a part of the game to camp / spawn camp. If any rules are to be created they will be map specific, such as in other divisions.

I understand and Agree, but listening to people on vent talk about driving or flying to the opposing base to steal the heli or the tank was a real turn off last night.

I agree that rules take time to develope, but from my experience on our other game servers, I don't expect EGO members to engage in this sort of activity, just because there are no rules specifically against it yet.

People know when they are abusing a game mechanic, and trying to get unlocks quicker is no excuse.

I apologize for the connotation of the term I used earlier, it has been removed. But I would like to see the community to discuss this.

Rush Maps are a unique situation, I can't think of any reasons to support these activities on the normal maps.

Like many in the community, I game on EGO servers with specific expectations, and last night was the first time I was ever disappointed by the actions of some community members.

I agree with the spawn camping not being cool, but stealing the other teams vehicles is fine by me. If I can work my way over to the other side without being killed, then by all means will I borrow that tank to drive back waving at the dead enemy team as I go by.

Agreed. Though I (alone) did manage to drive a quad to the enemy base and steal an APC in the first 2 minutes of a match. Guess they should have payed more attention!

Spawn camping isnt fun in any game.
So i agree with that on both players/snipers/vehicles shouldnt be allowed to.

As far as the vehicles go they should be IN the vehicles or have them gaurded.
I suppose if we end up not allowing spawn camping you wont be able to get to the vechiles in the first place so it wont really matter.

I also agree If they are not using their vehicles and get them stolen to be killed from behind they are not using teamwork in my opinion. Modern warfare's lifeblood and flexibility comes directly from our machines and the mobility that comes from using these vehicles properly.

Also I would like to give a small tip regarding vehicles. If you are in a tank or vehicle and are on the front lines or near enemy positions prepare to die with that vehicle. I've seen it to many times someone takes substantial damage and the either get out and run away or try to repair it themselves just to have a enemy seize the vehicle and run away to eventually get repaired. :chair:

:) That is all.

Well once we have figured out how we will admin our servers, im sure this will be addressed too ;)

On another note... its eGO, not Ego... it really annoys me when people type it wrong.

Darth, your eGO in correcting peoples post is become very powerful. :P

Thats whats good about this game is you have squad members you can spawn in on. so if the base is being camped just spawn in on them. Call in your teammates to rally against the camper. Make it fun!

I dont mind base camping once all the points have been taken or if you have not gotten all the points and are trying to create distraction so your team can recap atleast one of them. Stealing vehicles is part of the game though as frustrating as it can be sometimes.

Like previously stated, spawn camping is never fun whether it be from a stacked team to no communication, its pretty harsh and kills servers really easily. For most cases though, spawn camping falls down to no team work, in almost all servers you play in, teams that dont communicate on a regular basis, are teams that get rolled. Communication amongst team members is vital to all games, if your team is letting them fly/drive/push all the way to your spawn and take your vehicles then you need to reevalute what your team is doing before jumping out and raging(which most people do not do). Id have to say in a 32 player server, its quite hard to fly or get to someones spawn and take there vehicle without being killed prior.

Well, I don't think any of these rules are really necessary personally, about spawn camping, thats why you can spawn on squad mates and in many maps you have multiple spots to choose from to spawn besides that in the first place (and if all of your spawns are being camped... well... I must lol at you). Stealing vehicles, if I am good enough (or they fail enough) that A. they never spot me heading across the map to their spawn and/or never kill me on my way, and B. they let me get inside the actual spawn, bust through a fence, use my Thomson to gun down the three people waiting for the heli to spawn without them even hurting me, I then grab the Helicopter as it spawns, take off and dodge a rocket and get away, I think I deserve to have that helicopter/tank/whatever :P

BC2 has a sandbox multiplayer. You can attack from almost any position, and in any way. Just because eGO is a mature gaming cumminity you expect them to not take advantage of a non used tank. Were not talking about someone hacking into a tank. The other team did not use it, thus it was stolen. Thats as much part of the game as rushing bases and sniping from clifs.

Spawn camping has been part of the Battlefield series since day one. If your team or the other team leaves tanks in their base or in the wide open it's fair game. The only thing I don't like is when I'm repairing my tank someone on my team steals it.

I hate repairing a tank and your teammate runs you over while repairing it =/

Another thing I would like to say if the teams are uneven how about even them up. Last night when I was playing my team had only 4 including me while the other team had 8 and sometimes 10.

Vehicles are fair game, spawn camping is easily bypassed. Can run one of the million ways out of the base and ninja cap. If you get outcapped and you are stuck in your main spawn, sorry you got outplayed.

+1

It wasn't me! ;)
