Yes. Ultimate is the best!! But if you don't have premium or ultimate. Just Home Basic. You can still get less transparent areo. Which looks nice for basic

Alright ive heard that vista may cause youre game 2 lag more and u need a pretty powerfull rig 4 it 2 run probarly is this true ?
i only want it because of the direct.x 10 not because of any of the eye candy or any of that

Ok, its been a while since I made a rela post and althoug i dont have time righ tnow, that never stoped me before.
Albeit in reverse order:
Easy kill Post more specs, - jk, Does it cause more lagg? Well define lag, it doesnt cause more lag, what happens is that you tend to get a few less frames in vista than in XP. Does it take alot of run vista? absolutely, vista, (just like xp in its day) requires alot more hardware than its predecessor. If someone has an older computer they should definately keep XP, no doubt. Vista is a hog, it will uses about 1 GB of your RAM to do the things it does, leaving whatever is left to be used for games and other apps. 2 GB is the minimum for gamming. 1GB is basically the minimum for good experiance in day to day tasks. (although 512 is the speced min).
If you do have a good enough copmuter to run vista, and its not borderline then basically you will only notice a few frames loss in vista compared to XP (and that depends on drivers). Basically, I get within 5 frames in vista then when i boot into XP. Vista just has alot more thigns it is doing and since it is a redesign not a dirrect improvement things are done in a different way - so it may take some more time before they tweak it to be faster. The core 2's are good processors, and although that is a lower speed core2, you should be fine to run vista.
Axos, I am able to run all of my steam based gamers perfectly fine and without glitches. Pretty much everyone else is too - except apparently for Mindfull.

I am just not sure what to say to you anymore, when I read about your problems they are ones which just simply dont exist with any of the other hundreds of users with the exact same hardware setup as you. If I remember corectly, we have basically the same card that takes the same drivers, andI am able to run TF2 perfectly fine and I have fun. I played it yesterday infact (and since it came out).
I will say two things though, one, i have seen people with pentium4's and geforce 5900's have problems in windows XP that nobody else witht he same hardware had either. What it comes down to is sometimes weird hardware errors that only come out when matched with exactly the wrong other hardware - or a series of software which is incompatible with each other when running at the same time. For example you referenced chopper XP - I find it highly not unexpected that a program like that has trouble running in compatibility mode because of the type of program it is. Most programs will access the soundcard or video card etc and compatibility mode just translated old commands into new ones (sort of). Chopper XP however, is a video editing program (from what i can see) which in its software is tied closely to audio video drivers, codecs, and etc. In windows vista they completely change the way that stuff works - for example, they remamped the path that audio takes and changed some of the optional hardware rendering to software and moved some of the output audio rendering ports arround (this si why there is no EAX in vista, only open ai). The remaping and choices to do such in vista for video and audio in this mannor SHOULD break some types of software that may rely on the assumption that the paths will be the same. Programs such as DivX also did not run in compatibility mode the first week of release for this reason - it needed a new version.
I suspect that you, being technically inclined, have and use tons of odd or weird software to do things many people do not. I suspect that perhaps some of this software is installed on your computer and not others either causing or adding to the problem of weird video things happening to your computer. After that is all said and done, i still again dont knwo what else to say about that iddue because like i said, myself and many m any many many others have zero problems doing everythign we want to do and everythign which you cant do - and since its the same hardware, and the same games - you have to ask the question, what is different between your computer and ours. Software, as mentioned above, and my second point hardware.
Two, I have seen people have weird issues because of things as simple as they forgot to plug the extra power cable intot heir motherboard (the 4 pin) or they forgot to plug power into their videocard (or couldnt because thye had no free molex conector). The problems are sometimes caused by low voltage, not enough current or other strnage power issues. Now, I dont want to insult your computer building skills, or assert that you made a mistake, but I have to throw out there that that is basically the other reason why things liek this happen.

3) saw your hard drive as a removable disk - I am not even sure what you mean by this, windows cannot install itself onto a removable hard drive directly from the CD using any method I know of. Unless if you know of a company that makes drivers for windows installation when you press f6 as if you were installing raid drivers or sata drivers. I dont, but this makes me curious as to what is going on here. However, I could see how this issue could also be caused by the mothebroard. It really is the motherboard which determins how windows sees things since the motherboard tells windows where things are plugged into. It is very likely that you forgot, or got bad drivers from your motherboard website - or that you did not flash the bios tot he latest version for compatibility. I am not saying that I have directly seen this ever be the reason, but it seems the most logical to me at this point having done no research and also not fully understanding the problem.
4) the price (again, why are we here AGAIN). Once again, the price of windows vista is not onyl not rediculous, its the most affordable windows release they have ever had. Let me ask you this, you apparently want windows to cost less than an xbox - but, why would you want your operating systm to cost less than the software you may likely put onto it. Photoshop costs bank, and I definately and not saying i want windows to cost more than photoshop, but dont you find it funny when people buy $8000 bran dnew cars and put $30,000 worth of rims, spoiler, and speakers intot he car? Maybe thats just me then. The point is, where do you get off comparing windows to xbox? I dont see what you want them to 'learn' from 98, but its called supply and demand - you may want to learn about ti for economics. You buy a $4000 computer and want to put a $30 os on it? Dont get me wrong, i'm not saying that microsoft doesnt make enough money, but exactly how is a few hundred dollors (which is the standard by the way) too much for an OS? Have you looked up the price of mac os, or other operating system which are not free, such as QNX or unix. heck, people pay thousands of dollard for unix.
I am still trying to figure out your comment about them learning from 98 since its been a decade. Not to mention that a decade ago I could buy a bottle of soda for 89 cents, not a dollar 25. things cost more now and yet vista not only released at the same price XP did, but they made the difference versions so that people dont have to pay for more software then they need and can save money. I've already talked about this so you can go back and read if you forget why that was a good idea.
5) the vista user agreement? are you kidding me, have you read the windows XP user agreement? I remember when vista first came out there was a giant debate about hwo bad it was, and especially the part about not being able ot go back to XP after using vista section which turned out to be just a misinterpretation of legal jargon and flew off the handle by all the vista haters out there. If you were to search ahrd enough I bet you will find the same article I had read at the time which made a direct comparrison of XP and vista EULA which as it turns out is nearly identical except for a very few issues.

line 10 - here is a good one because your gong tolose this point. In windows XP you are only allowed ot change so much of your hardware before microsoft clains that you have installed it onto a new computer. With XP if you change your harddrive or motherboard they tink you are pirates and have to have a two hour phone conversation with them trying to explain how its the same computer with new hardware. The theory is that you can probably install xp 2-3 times before your key doesnt work and you have to call (the number varies). With windows vista, they raised the number of times and increased the changes you are allowed to make so that they dont get intot he same trouble from all the Dell customers who call because their hard drive died and got it replaced. so in conclusion of thise point, not only is the eula the same on this issue and in practice - but they made changes allowing it to be easier to make changes to your computer.

Aftering comming under fire for this sort of trickery before vista was released they changed windows so that programs like Norton, and spybot could still do everything they needed at the users discgression. It doesnt prevent or limit you from using any software you want, the line is a legal line about how you advratize junk. This reminds me, who was that spam network that sued adaware for removing and labling this garbage as garbage - i think it was save or gain.

Is he supposed to be knowledgable because he is a computer scientist from another country? I mean cmon on, there are 200 graduating computer scientists from universities in every state in this country. Half of which couldnt explain what hyper threading was to save their life. (that reminds me fo a fun time ask the salesman as best buy to explain hyper threading). Drop the flash words for HD and Blue ray and lets tla about this issue - DRM. Vista was rewritten and includes some checking and help for DRM that XP didnt. That was microsofts choice as they are and always have been against pirates - I guess they dont want anyone to do what they did to zerox to them. It isnt the changes in vista that made DRM change - its the changes that sony makes in it DRM rootkits that affects everyone and that doesnt matter what OS it runs on. The guy you quoted had an opinion and a cirtain view and a way of looking at things and interpreted the way he wanted. You know what? there are forums out there were people still think the world is flat because water floats (or some dumb thing liek that).

Mac is gaining popularity, linux is gaining popularity, there are hundres of OS's out there some are pay some ore free BeOS, sky os, QNX, unix - they arent really a monopoly in operating systems - depending on how you look at it and define terms. They do have many monopolies though but really it's not for me to decide i'm not a judge or lawyer so my opinion in this is only as good as everyone elses. and everyone has an oppinion and you knwo how good those are.
P.S. Xerox has to be the smartest and dubest company i've ever heard of. Did you know they invented the mouse, the photocopier, the lazer printer, and even the GUI (Graphical user interface). They should be the richest company in the world - but they didnt pattent their inventions so then you get companies like microsft and apple and everyone else making bank and what does zerox get? yay it gets to be the other name for making photocoppies. I wonder if the president of xerox just sits in his office and bangs his head on the wall over and over all day long.

I have been using Vista since last Feb. I have used several different versions Buisness 32 bit (about 3 weeks), Buisness 64 bit (about 6 months) and Ultimate 64 bit (the remaining time).
The reason for the changes for me was that i was getting the buisness edition free from uni and they didnt have the 64 bit edition to start with.
I have experienced no problems with vista at all. I find the operating system to be extremely stable. In the year of having it I have experienced 1 BSOD and even this wasnt really an operating system problem because it was a problem with a bit ot hardware. This is much improved from my previous xp setups where they would BSOD at the very least once a month.
As mentioned in previous posts drivers may have been a slight problem after the initial releases of Vista but by the summer most companies like ati and nvidia had pretty well functioning drivers released that cope well with everything vista throws at them.
I have used a host of peripheral devices namely, 6 different printers, 5 different mp3 players, an countable number of memory sticks and ext hard drives, many network adapters, scanner, barcode reader, 3 different video cameras and lots and lots of audio equipment.
Through all my time the only device I have been unable to get working with vista was a Guitar/Computer interface made by a company called Line 6. At the time i was using it they hadnt released 64 bit driver. So had to use it on an XP partition i had.
So as you can see safely say that driver support hasnt been a big issue for me.
I study computer science at University so switching to vista was a bit of a worry for me as I didnt want leave myself not being able to run programmes i need to for my course.
In the year of using vista i have not encountered a single problem.
So all in all i must say i am an VERY satisfied vista user with almost a year of experience. I would reccomend this OS to anybody with a mid range computer or above without a problem.
Oh and the specs of my current vista machine are:
CPU: 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo (E6600) overclocked to 3.4 Ghz
RAM: 4GB pc6400
Mobo: Asus P5W DH Delux
OS HD: 2 x 250GB HD in Raid 0
Data HD: 250GB
GFX: Nvidia Gforce 7900 GS
