I'm so pleased that it won the top 2 nods at the Oscars. It's so deserving. A very unique and well done film.

I haven't seen it yet, but I saw the nominations for it, and I checked out the trailer... I just need the dang time to sit down now!! ><

These ocars is kind of joke , made by US for the US . Enough said.
And what's great about this, at least from a US point of view, is that we are so culturally arrogant we either don't see this or don't care :)

Hurt Locker was a great film. As an Army vet I can say they pretty much nailed it. The scene where the two sergeants got drunk and started hitting each other had me cracking up it was so true. Apparently I was the only vet in the theater, because no one else was laughing :blushing:

The only way that statement could be wrong is if An Education won.

These are the Oscars, it almost always awards American made films. Everyone knows this. If you want international, watch the BAFTAs...which still gave top awards to The Hurt Locker.

Also I would have preferred to see Inglorious Basterds take top prize, that was the most entertaining film of the last year.

so hurt locker won??

uhh it was a good movie and all, but i didn't think it was that good...meh

Bah, the critics have been replaced with pre-teens. Twilight might as well have stayed on stage the entire time last year. My girlfriend was watching it last night, I saw a lot of Avatar wins which disappoints me greatly.

edit: just heard that for the first time since Casa Blanca, a film has won 9 Oscars.

Titanic won 14.....

I agree, it was a very entertaining feature. If The Hurt Locker had not been nominated I feel as though Inglorious Basterds would have won. My one problem with Inglorious Basterds is that some scenes feel drawn out which lead the film to be quite long. While still wildly entertaining I feel as though the film suffered from its length.

Again bringing me back to my point of pre-teens replacing the critics...

Sorry it actually won 11, it was nominated 14 times.

Agreed, that or Up(Animated). Then again, the Oscars never fall short on disappointments.

I was watching last nights Oscars with a sense of anxiety. Thinking that if Avatar won I would never watch the Academy Awards again. I think that would have been the biggest disappointment. I'm pleased Cameron couldn't buy his way to a win, rather tight script, direction, acting and originality won out.

I would be so bold to place The Hurt Locker amongst the greatest of War Films. With such pictures as Apocalypse Now, Lawrence of Arabia, and All Quite on the Western Front.

Some movies are good because the graphics and effects were breathtaking (Avatar)
Some movies are good because it's entertaining (Inglourious Basterds)
Some movies are good because it's touching (Precious)

But..

Some movies are good because simply because it's an extremely well made movie (Hurt Locker) and that's what the Academy awarded.

Well Inglorious Basterds was an incredibly well made film, that is easily on par with The Hurt Locker.

Now don't get me wrong, The Hurt Locker is a damn fine film and one of the best to come out last year. The thing that gets me is that it was labeled as a war film, but it's not really about a war. It is more of a character study of a man who is doing the only thing in the world that he loves doing. The war is just a back drop to the actual story. Almost like calling Patton a war movie, when it was a bio-pic.
