Story: "I'm the party pooper."

Review: This is a weird specimen of a film, it comes from a bygone day when it was seemed funny to put Action Stars/Wrestlers in to situation that involve small children...like Mr. Nanny, Jingle All the Way or The Pacifier. Out of this weird sub-genre...Kindergarten Cop is probably the best. Mostly because it has Schwarzenegger in it and does not include Sinbad.

Story: Sun Ra comes back from Saturn...and...ehh...wtf?

Review: It's ok if you don't know who Sun Ra is. I had no idea who he was up until a year ago. The man is a musician, who was known for some really crazy avant-garde jazz...oh, and he actually believed that he was abducted by aliens and was taken to Saturn. Anyway, this is an off-the-wall Blaxploitation film that deals with the end of the world and a bet with Satan. The film delves heavily into Sun Ra's points of views on Black Culture in the US. I can't really call this a good movie, but for the adventurous...it's worth a watch.

Story: The tale of a skilled Russian during the Battle of Stalingrad.

Review: Historically inaccurate, but well done film about a talented sniper as he becomes a hero of the Soviet Union during the Battle of Stalingrad. It's well acted and well shot, but is hampered by an pointless romantic subplot. Still worth watching.

Title: True Grit
Year: 1969

Director: Henry Hathaway

Story: 14 year old girl hires John Wayne to find and kill the man who killed her father.

Review: One of John Wayne's better Westerns and actually one of better US westerns in general. This is both a cute and touching film that put Wayne in the role of a reluctant mentor to the young girl who wishes to hire him. It's also an interesting spin on the standard western.

*Apparently getting remade this year by the Coen bothers...I have no idea what to think of that.

Story: "We're off on the road to Morocco and somewhere we're feeling sort of numb"

Review: The third and arguably the best "Road to" movie follows Bing Crosby and Bob Hope who get sold into slavery. It's a funny film with some pretty good songs. Though by today's standards it's pretty racist.

Story: Truman Burbank is the star of his own TV show and is completely unaware of it.

Review: Feels like a Charlie Kaufman film, but isn't a Charlie Kaufman film about a man whose entire life is one giant reality TV show. From birth up until the events of the film, he has been the primary subject of a TV show that he has no knowledge of existing. It's one of most prophetic films that I know of, predating almost all reality TV shows. This helped to cement Andrew Niccol as a great talent.

Story: Millionaire John Cleese informs a group of six people that there is two million dollars in a duffel bag at a train station 563 miles away...the first to get there gets the money.

Review: I've never seen It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, but apparently this is the same film. The plot is the same, the cast is rounded out with great comedic actors and the tone of the film is the same. The jokes in this film is pretty hit or miss mostly falling on the miss side. Also the ending is truly atrocious.

Story: His name is Rainier Wolfcastle, not Schwarzenegger...Damn you Matt Groening!

Review: Wait The Simpsons are still on? I mean I stopped watching it in 2003, so I had no idea that the show was still running...and they have a movie too? I wish I were kidding. The Simpsons have been on a steady decline for a long time now. It has come to the point where the show is no longer relevant, falling behind South Park and Family Guy. I hate to say this, but The Simpsons are no longer entertaining.

But how is the movie? Well, it's alright. It's kind of obvious that the creators of the show know what wrong with it and they they try to correct some issues. The writers manage to strike a balance between the zany situational comedy and the actual Simpsons family dynamic/wit/satire, which we had been missing from the show. So it does a pretty good job pleasing both new and old fans. The jokes are really hit or miss and a lot of gags just fall flat. Though this isn't the complete disaster that I thought it would be.

Review: In this film the Marx Bros. take on politics in a spectacularly hilarious way. Groucho becomes the president of a failing nation Freedonia and manages to spark off a war with a neighboring nation through insults. I wish I had seen a few of their other films so that I could make comparisons. This one was originally panned by critics, but only recently has it been elevated to the status of a classic. Still it's a funny and entertaining film...if the below video does not convince you to watch this, then there is something terribly wrong with you.

Story: An old man and a young boy ride a floating house to the exotic lands of South America.

Review: This movie starts to 10 of the most depressing minutes committed to film, no seriously...it's really depressing. The main theme of this film is about loss and moving forward after that loss. Thematically speaking it's easily Pixar's most mature film and one of its most encouraging. Having just saw it last night, I'm not to sure of where I would personally rank it among Pixar's other films...but rest assured, it's up there...Oh, god I'm sooo sorry for the pun.

I haven't seen it, but from the looks of it I think the video is up on Google Video. So if I find the time I'll watch it. In the mean time though, here is another documentary.

Story: It's about people who committed suicide by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge.

Review: The jist of this film is basically Eric Steel film the Golden Gate Bridge during 2004 and captured 23 suicides. Steel also interviewed the families of those who took their lives. I can't decide whether this documentary is good or bad, whether it's morally reprehensible or incredibly profound. Maybe it's a little of everything.

I agree Up dealt with some very mature issues. Especially during the opening sequence of the film. I liked it for that reason, I connected with it more than lets say Finding Nemo or The Incredible's. I'd place it at number three on Pixar's greatest list behind Toy Story and Ratatouille.
