Supporting eGO

im surprised i havnt seen this on EGO other than the simple donations setup.. but i got an idea granted this has been done on other servers in fact I pay a $4 monthly fee for it on another server i regularly play at and i tell you its worth every penny.

Set up a VIP system on the gaming servers. make it a nominal fee like 5-10 bucks a month or something like that. with this you get a reserved slot on all EGO servers so even if the server is full it will bump a non vip player to allow you in quickly, auto balance immunity, ability to call for admins if needed, ability to swap teams via a !swapteams command even if the normal switch teams is not letting you so vip's can play with each other on the same team if they want. make it so the VIP text is a different color say team colored to denote them as a VIP and white for regular players. End of round immunity etc.. you can select what benefits you want to offer people for the lvl of subscription fee paid if you want. set it up on a monthly subscription via paypal. advertise it on the board and on the servers info when it pops up during game play. people will pay it if they play on the servers regularly and feel that its worth it. and 5 bucks a month is worth it in most cases.

all is needed is the game name you are currently using and steam id to set it up. once activated you can then change your player name at will since its tracked by the steam id. oh and someone to implement and keep track of it on the servers. but as long as the benefits are worth it you will get a steady monthly income to help pay for the servers.
 
porpoise, unfortunately, I disagree with your idea. That would mean we would buy ANOTHER server, and we have no gurantee that people will pay for iT. We'd be better off letting people buy events, or just donate normally.

Let me just tell you this. eGO will NEVER make reserved slots, ever. As we say, we never promote anybody if they have donated to eGO. As Garden said, half the admins out their arnt donors.

Im pretty sure our rule is that we will not give advantages to some players. The reason why most of the people play on our servers is because we have no reserved slots.

Another thing is if we give special privileges to people who donate. The pubs will feel like you will need to donate to get the same playing experience.

Finally, if "VIP's" are given coloured text it will made it harder for the players to see if the admins are saying anything. People might also spam it and make it difficult to play.
 
yeah, IMHO VIP slots are a really bad idea, it drives players away when they get kicked from a server for a person who pays, same when they get other advantages. And the ability to call an admin isn't really necessary with the fact that when our servers are populated they typically have 4-5 admins on them at any given time (at least in TF2).
 
At the moment and no matter how hard he wants I cannot donate, since I am in half to buy a gift for my mother, but in easy June sera but for my, although the donations for my will be but difficult, since I must change my Mexican pesos to dollars, I am not eG nor ego as to help recruiting but of my part I only ask that they in future wait for to me of June and surely she will support, I will feel or supporting. Give me time and with taste will only help clan.
 
to iSimon, why would EGO have to purchase another server for my idea? just implement it on the current servers. done.

if the admins have their own designated text color then you will know the admins and VIP's thus eliminate the possibility of spamming. as far as a drop off in plyer count due to getting bumped for someone who pays to use the server would be minimal at best. and in alot of cases regular players who are not members of EGO might actually pay 5 bucks a month to be assured they can always play on the server when they want and not have to wait. the several servers i play on that have a VIP system are almost always full with a mix of VIP's and non VIP's. if there is an issue with those who donate on occasion and a monthly VIP member then offer something to those who donate but not a VIP as well it will encourage more people to donate or join as a VIP member thus increasing cash flow to support the community and its servers. This is by no means saying that it should be a requirement to donate or become a VIP but if you were to do so you get special priveleges compared to those who dont.
 
If i can get my lawnmower engine to stop hunting, I'll raise some money by mowing yards that way ;)

or when i break that $50 to get win7 :P
 
The out-pouring of financial love has been amazing everyone! We've brought in about $1100 in the past couple of days.

It takes about $2500 a month to keep eGO running. This includes:

  • Hosting for websites
  • Stats
  • Ventrilo
  • Game Servers
  • Bank and credit card merchant fees
  • Nevada Secretary of State for LLC (broken down monthly for this thread)
  • Post office box

Hopefully, with a steady flow of donations and recruiting to increase advertising revenue we'll be ok.

Btw... usually when we post dollar amounts for servers a flood of offers for servers from members comes into leadership mail boxes. Although we appreciate the offers greatly, it's our policy not to accept private servers.
 
Well, my parents wont let me donate, but I'm doing my best at recruiting and helping out on the servers!
 
well, I'm very tight on money now, but when I get some I will definitely donate $20. I hope that helps.
