Since I've started playing CS:S I've always used either the M4, AK, AWP, MP5, or some other pistols. Never really tried the scout because it took forever to shoot and it only damage the enemy by 61 HP (to the body), also I can just take out an assault rifle and start firing instead. Well, after seeing everyone use the scout, I wanted to try it out.

Went to highschool and started scouting for several rounds, the result=horrific. I died so many times and the kills I got were from deagles not the scout. Basically, I suck.

Main Question: Should I try the scout or stick with assault rifle? Also, if you got any scouting tips/training tips for me, post them here. Thanks! :)
By the way, a few days ago I asked for some M4 tips and thank you all for providing good answers/tips. I would consider myself pretty good with the m4 now.

scout can shoot accurately while moving.
while the awp can't
if you strafe from side to side and hit SHIFT then shoot
you'll get a really accurate shot with the scout to my knowledge

ok, earlier i went 20-0 in high school with my scout and deagle. all i do is sit back, i always aim high. take a deep breath and fire. quick switch and scope back in take another shot. PRACTICE!

Yea right, 20-0. You know seek, your a pretty good liar. :glare:
-psh- 20-0, yea right...

That's a great tip ruthless, I never thought of the shift walking thing.

Aim high. Thats what I do, sit by the cork boards, and when they start smoking back there, just start shooting just above head level, i got 5 kills doing this.

The scout is an awesome weapon that's why! And tips... aim for the head, friend. and try not to miss lol

Persistance and Patience is key with scout.

To use it, you have to roll over the guy's head. Not just sit in 1 spot and get hit in the head by an AK or any other assault rifle. ALWAYS be moving.

Fine, dont believe me! i smoked the crap out of a and sat back in the smoke and watched T stairs.

Reasons why I don't believe you:
(troll)
1) You never play highschool, and when I said "never" I mean never. You play jail 24/7
2) Your terrible with scout (lol), your always failing.
3) I've seen you scout, fail.
If you wanna prove it to me, let's play highschool tomorrow :)

I am the scout mastah! Here are a few tips

1. Try to strafe or move a little when you shoot, it increases accuracy.
2. Aim for the head, almost 100% of the time it will be a 1 hit kill.
3. The scout is also deadly accurate without scoping, which is useful for close combat.
4. Try using QQ
5. Once you get a kill, move, camping is not a good thing with a sniper rifle.
6. Dont die.

Tips:

  • While standing still, the scout is accurate to an extent. Sometimes the shot won't hit exactly where you point it at long distances (such as across the main hall through long snipe in cs_office, or B hall in highschool), even when double-scoped.
  • Strafe, zoom-in, aim at the enemy, stop and shoot in this order. Immediately move or take cover after shooting, and then repeat. Learn to do this as fast and precise as you can (obviously the hardest part to master is aiming, but practice will improve your efficiency). The scout has the advantage of being lighter, so you can peek around a corner, get a quick body shot, fall to cover, then repeat. You should always try to aim for the head though. A shot to the head from a scout can kill through a thin surface and glass.
  • As with any gun, prefiring is a key tactic to getting fast and accurate kills. Predict where the enemy would be when you peek a corner by getting familiar with common positions.

  • You should try to always be in the back of the group so you can cover from a distance. This way you have the advantage of the scope and you can score some kills while the enemy is busy with your team in the front.
  • Keep close attention to your surroundings and sound when zoomed-in. Check your radar and make sure teammates are covering your six. If an enemy comes behind you and starts shooting, chances are it's game over before you can even turn around and retaliate. Keep in mind you need to move your mouse more to look around while zoomed-in than while zoomed-out.
  • Know when to use your primary and your secondary. Using the scout, the P228 or the Deagle is your best friend for close combat. Don't try to rush in with a scout and expect to get kills in close quarters, because, even though these are possible, they are very prone to fail and leave you defenseless in the intervals between your shots if you miss. Likewise, don't try to snipe with a deagle. It rarely works.
  • Never move up in the map to a place where you won't be able to fall back to behind a corner. As a sniper, when you move up, you are more vulnerable. While traversing short hallways or passages, equip your deagle. If you need to move up a long distance to an area where an enemy may potentially appear, try using a flash across the corner next to your destination to make sure the enemy doesn't pop up in front of you running forward.
  • Smoke grenades are a double-edged sword. While they may hinder range of sight if they are planted in the middle of a hall (your enemy and you being in opposite ends), they are also somewhat advantageous. If you place a smoke grenade right next to a corner in the beginning of a hallway, with good measurement, you can barely see the enemy across it through your scope, while for them it's much harder to spot you when you are inside the smoke.

aim high but dont be scared to aim for the chest. if you always aim for head and you miss you will never get ills but with a body shoot if they are damaged a fair amount it will be a kill regardless.

I suggest that you shoot into common areas when its smoked.
They're still going to be in the same spots, you just cant see them.

Unless you have a intense desire to improve aspects of your CS:S gameplay, scout is not really necessary. I think you pointed out some good reasons why it's hardly the go to end all (an AR will kill just as well as the scout at the same distances, minus the zoom).

If you can't get used to the scout, don't worry too much about it. All games should be about having fun, and if you don't have fun there's not much point in playing, no?
Unless of course you are lolfailing, which, if that's the case, practice will be the best option.

My scout tip: don't use double zoom. It's unwieldy and cuts down your FOV drastically while making your accuracy suffer. The single zoom has some leeway in aiming, the double does not. Now, I don't mean NEVER use double zoom, some places you need it (i.e. the long A hallway in high school), but even then most of the time single zoom will give you enough crosshair/zoom to get the job done.

I am the scout mastah! Here are a few tips

I am the scout master.

here is the first vid i've ever made on scout: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hocGxFb6nLg"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hocGxFb6nLg[/ame]
here is my second vid i made awhile ago on highschool: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOJ5nm8pE0E"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOJ5nm8pE0E[/ame]

here are my tips.

1) sniping is all about flick shotting. if you can't flick shot you cannot snipe. flick shot means your crosshairs are not on the target but you know your sens/mouse enough that you can flick it in a direction with enough force for it to go to its intended target, and shoot. its quick aiming and sniping is all about being good at that which takes practice. you'll see lots of this in my vid.

2) scout is not an accurate weapon unless you're crouched. test it. aim against a wall even like 10 feet away, it has a pretty big spread....all the way down the hallway its pretty bad. so if you know you can get the shot/kill then crouch.

3) contrary to 2, do not crouch all the time, you're just too easy of a target. strafe left to right quickly. oh and scout is not accurate while moving, but it is accurate while skating. skating is the residual movement you have once you stop running in a given direction. test it. hold A then let go and you'll drift (skate) in the direction for a little bit further. Scout is just as accurate as normal while skating, awp is not. strafing quickly back and forth is basically continuously skating so you can shoot accurately while doing it yet be hard to hit.

4) aim for the head...ALWAYS. you quickly need to get in the habit of aiming for the head. you're not going to get many kills if you're aiming for the body. you won't always get a second shot. if you aim for the head and miss then die, you would have died just the same if you hit them in the chest once. plus if you miss their head lots of times you'll hit their chest. you'll probably be pretty bad at it at first, but the more you practice the smaller you'll miss by until you're pwning everybodies face all the time.

5) practice on deathmatch servers. nothing more frustrating then lining up a perfect scout shot or something just to get shot in the back and need to wait 1-2 mins until your next chance. get on death match it helps flick shotting a LOT especially since anybody can be anywhere in relation to you.

6) prefiring is good for normal weapons, not scout. scout you get one shot most of the time, obviously you're not going to prefire and hope you're lucky. what you want to do is preaim. again with practice you can know where somebody will be when they run past a corner. so by the time you notice them and pull the trigger they'll be in your crosshairs.

7) no scoping is a gimic, do not rely on it. sometimes its great if you just don't have any time and you're face to face with the guy, but its most inaccurate than scoping and you're just relying on pure luck (which usually doesn't work out). scope, flick to their face, kill them.

8) patience. don't freak out. wait until you're comfortable knowing you can flick to them and get the kill. the more you practice the shorter this time gets but its important. you're not helping yourself by rushing your shot then waiting for a reload, its better to take an extra half a second even if you take damage.

9) as you can see in my vids i double scope and basically ONLY double scope. the loss in vision is no problem since you should know to a good degree where your target is, and the more you zoom in the bigger your target. would it be easier aimiing for a period or an o? . o . o . o i dunno bout you but i'll pick the o any day, makes my life much easier.

10) positioning is very important as a scouter. you cannot run into a group of 3-4 and expect to come out alive like you could if you're just spraying an automatic. you need to position yourself so you can face each one, one at a time. usually this means poking out from corners, but you cannot do that too many times in a row the exact same way, they'll figure your pattern quickly and just line up the shot...so try to stay unpredictable too.

TLDR: im the scout master and if my tips are too long to read then add me on steam, message me on the forums and i can show you in game in a few minutes.

Man JunK. Those were 2 great videos. Can you still do that since they fixed hitboxes? I used same tactic as you and it isn't as effective as it was before the updates. :confused1:

I'm gonna try to play with scout soon too Power. I'll give you my tips after like I did with the M4 and the AK. Good luck bud !

let me tell you something there is no perfect way to scout or to use any gun. All our mouse speed for in game and def mouse speed are different. Also a lot of sniper change their mouse speed while zooming in so they can flick their shots. flick shots are the best way to get kills but you can't learn it by people telling you what to do. All you have to do is just go in a sever and just use the scout for a long long long long^10 time and you will be pro at it :] You might think i suck with scouts cuz i never use them in highschool. I use to use them until i start to play scrim which no one use scout and so i only use the awp now.

A scout's noscope is pretty accurate, actually. Sometimes it isn't worth trying to scope especially if your target is very close almost off your screen once you scope- flicking is much harder then as opposed to if the enemy is at the end of the hall.
