Achievements - Hard vs. Easy For Newer DoD Members

I have gotten 44 out of my 47 achievements the hard way...fighting on standard servers in live games. Yes, quick draw and melee madness are fun nights, and I am NOT bashing them, but there is a certain satisfaction to actually getting them in a live match.

I have been playing recently on a zombie server that is an absolute scream, and non stop action. I mean NON-STOP. You can't go 5 seconds without a dozen enemies attacking your position. The downside for most folks who play on that server is that the achievements come cheap. I have stopped handing out congrats on that server...it just isn't the same. I got 227 kills vs 3 deaths in one 20 minute round with an MG less than an hour ago. I did shamefully get my knife award there yesterday, and I regret it immensely.

I've also come to the conclusion that 90+% of the players there would be absolutely PWNED playing on one of our servers like a 16V16 Donner....they have developed no marketable soldiering skills at all.

My words of wisdom to newer DoD player are thus: play around on on our goof off nights with melee and quick draw, then go for the gold and EARN your awards on our live servers. Yes, your nose will get bloodied quite a bit, but you'll be a superior player, and your teammates will thank you. That is all.

I agree with earning your achievments in real combat, feels more rewarding when you finally get that elusive one! Like you I have been working on "jack of all trades!" oh man, im going insane trying to get it, but it will be worth it!!!

I guess im a bit guilty of getting some achivments there on those servers. They seem to be very popular. And i got one achievment by planting TNT on a map when no one was there. So im guilty! =(

umm...they are just achievements that do next to nothing for the game...which is dying, so i suppose for the few new players that do decide to start up dods, if they really cared about getting any "good" then i don't think they'd be playing pubs too often

if you really wanted to give advice to "new" players, then tell them to go play orange_fight, a lot of the competitive dods community are usually in there, when they aren't top fraggin on pubs or scrimmin it up

but again, i'd like to point out that achievements do nothing other than a personal sense of accomplishment, which is respectable, don't get me wrong, but its still a game.

yes i'm qq'ing bro

I think the point of an achievement, is you achieve it... playing a normal game :P

other servers.. DUH! fantastic idea. now i won't loose points while trying to get them, considering I'm one sucky sniper.

Who hasn't had a cheeky session on a gun game server and unlocked a couple of awards? :P

I play the classes i want to and before they even came out with achievements when i was really into DoD i feel like i already earned them. After seeing a few threads about achievements and with at least another week off of work i might just try to get some more.
