How is respawn determined?

Cause frankly, I'm sick and tired of waiting 18 seconds to respawn every time I die, when everybody I kill only waits two.

Clearly, you're playing Red on a cp map. Defense always has longer respawn times just to keep the game fair. Also, if you're playing as medic your respawn times are likely to be longer. Not applicable to your situation though, respawns are set in waves so that multiple players will spawn at the same time. It's set up that way to encourage teamwork.

Respawn time is determined by the amount of random noclipping around the map. The more random noclipping, the higher the respawn time.

Is the player no_clipping around the map? If yes, then it is clearly respawn.

Actually, due to the anti-JayFlip plugin I had installed, your respawn time should be 2 minutes, not a scant 18 seconds. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I'll get it corrected immediately. :P

How can people not understand that in an attack/defend situation

  • when the offense has to travel the length of the entire map (ok they might have some teleports to help them) to reach the last point while
  • you run out of spawn and are generally at/very near/much closer than the offense is to the last point,
  • if you both spent the same amount of time "dead" it would be nearly impossible for the attacking team to win.

Well I understand that, but I think that it should be lower when no points are capped yet.

One of my biggest peeves is that during setup, if I decide I want to change classes after I've gotten to near BLU's spawn, if I change classes (thus killing myself), I still have to wait that amount of time, not immediate. Therefore, I cannot get properly setup in time. Is it possible for THAT to change?

Also, whilst longer respawn times even it out if the game is full, it makes it REALLY hard to start servers. Low population makes long respawn times instant losses.

Yeah, not really, depending on how far away from spawn you are you can run back and change classes. Other than that, not really, its just the way the game is.

Disable death on class change. Options -> Multiplayer -> Advanced -> Uncheck "Suicide after...."
