Team Balances, Admining, and You

We've got a problem, and this post is courtesy of Slayr357 and your DoD:S Division Leadership.

It seems that we as a group are having a very difficult time with handling team imbalances. A server does NOT have to be at an even number of players on both sides at all times. In Admin 101, we teach that you should only be admining if the difference in teams is greater than three. In a full server, a smaller difference will statistically even out very quickly and solve the problem by itself.

What does this mean? Don't make a big deal and ask for the teams to be fixed if the difference is 1, 2, or 3. It's overkill and annoying. Pubbers seem to be under the impression that a difference of 2 is a big problem; it's really not in the grand scheme of things. 3 is borderline; more than three is a problem and to be admined. As a reminder, we DO NOT EVER move players to even up teams, and that has always been the rule.

I know that some of you are wondering: "Why is he posting this in DoD General instead of the eG/eGO Private forums?" It's here because our e-level members have a role to play in this job too:

Want noticed? Be "that guy" that hops to the other side to even out teams. Spray mentioned that just today, he played in a 16v11 eGO server in DoD where there were three e's on the 16-man side that refused to switch. Yes, you might have a higher KDR from playing on a stacked side. Yes, you might get more points.

But I can GUARANTEE you that neither your points nor KDR will get you noticed in this community, unless you're on one of Ronpaul's elite teams. Even then, it's not going to get you a promotion. Step up and switch; enjoy the challenge. There's a reason Slayr357 has made a living punching his way through the Avalanche apartments; nobody else is willing to do the grunt work. This is the same type of thing, and it's something that admins should be used to doing. If everyone leaves the server because of an imbalance, you don't have anyone to play with.

TL;DR: Teams are officially "uneven" when the difference is greater than 3, and it's always been the rule. Never move people, and switch yourself to even them out, especially if you're an e-level member.

Common sense, right? :)

I see eGO's posting a lot to even teams when it becomes a two-slot difference. I'll usually wait and see how it plays out but generally don't mind dropping off if required.

Fully agree - seen a few time where people call for teams to be evened, and by the time they have stopped to type it out the teams are already balanced!! Can't help but sit there and think "teams are good (you clown)" - personally i would not like to cause other people to be thinking the same of me or any other admins by calling for the balance without it being needed!!

And definitely to the switch - sometimes i am swapping teams every 5 - 10 minutes.. there are some responsibilities that come with being a member and that is one of them. If we keep the teams good ourselves then people will keep in the server which means we keep our own little corner of the DoD world that is all ours. And double for the being noticed by leadership!! If you won't take it upon yourself to switch before asking others to then how would those who make decisions on promotions be expected to believe you would be a fair and appropriate admin? As always do what you would like to happen if you were in the other person's shoes.. :)

Don't know if it was said but... A 17 on 15 team needs to be admin... There should NEVER be 17 on a team... It's annoying and will not work it self out.

Incorrect, at some point the 17th player will drop off and the next person to join will join the lesser team. Besides it doesnt matter they only have a 2 person advantage. Is it really that bad? No its not.

Oh goodness gracious, someone finally told it how it is. A 2 person advantage is not a big deal, this including regards to 15 vs 17. THANK YOU for saying that, thank goodness someone finally did besides me.

As for the OP, understood.

Yes, I have noticed this occurring as well, and thank you for clarifying it. I am a recent graduate of Greenlight's Admin 101, and he most defiantly made a point of stressing that only at 3 do you begin to look at the problem. Myself, I am one of the first to jump over if the teams need balancing, all achievements or KDR aside, I enjoy playing both sides, and keeping the teams even makes it more fun for everybody, pubs and eGO members alike!

Things have a way of leveling out eventually. It may be annoying having to stop playing with your friends and switch teams but once teams become even again youll be back shooting with your buds. I have only had to switch players once when teams were off by five for several rounds. It seems like even that action was against eGO policy. In short: switch teams if you can, if not then shut your stinkin' piehole!

I always try to swap over... Unless of course I'm on the team with less players :P

Good post, a topic that should definitely be brought up. Plus if the other team has an extra man or two that's just a couple more heads to shoot, no biggy!

I've seen this happen lots. Many new e's whom I've never seen before often tell the pubs to even out at a difference of 2, even though they are in a position to do it themselves. I think it's a matter of learning and making sure our new members read the forums, to know what is going on and how we run the show.

Bottom line is all eGO members should try to even it out themselves to make sure the people who play on our servers have fun.

I agree with this. To be honest I think there needs to be more willingness on the part of us e's to assist in keeping the game enjoyable. Lead by example. We all should know the guidelines of being a member of eGO therefore we should know how things should run and strive to make eGO a great place to be.

What does this mean to some? Actually taking the time to be mature and show people that we all can be mature and play a game without cursing up a storm in chat and voice and being willing to switch teams to keep things as even as possible.

I know for some it may be hard due to age but I know for a fact there are several eGO members and leaders at 15 years old or younger that act better than some of the older people.

I know I kind of went off in a couple of different directions but it's something I've noticed recently with e's cursing, screaming, and bringing eGO a bad name only because there wasn't an admin online at the time to do something about it (you know who you are).

*steps off soap box*

I've learnt not to say "Even out the teams" lately and have instead just jumped over myself if the teams are uneven. Makes for a easier evening then yelling out loads of time to even the teams out.

Great post!

Personally, I like to be on the team of lesser players. It provides me with a challenge and also gives me more people to kill :) I hate to be on a stacked team because my player gets tired from running 3/4 of the map before running into someone from the opposite team.
