In all seriousness, I believe what my Mythology teacher taught us. They Mayan's calendar's ended at certain cycles, each which resulted in a new age. From Stone Age, came the Bronze Age. Bonze then became the Iron Age. And so on until today's Nuclear Age. 2012 is when they're calendar's cycle ends. Perhaps that means just a new age for us. Or simply, means nothing at all.

People are getting too hyped up over nothing. This is gonna be just another Y2K.

No, because world conflict at this scale has been around for along time and well its only seems bigger because of the news getting better at it's job, poor economy, and a few(I mean the full meaning of few) countries and nations are having issues. Like in the middle east where its strictly a religious issue we had to get involved in and North korea who are all brainwashed zombies led by a sociopath. Once the world economy picks up and we all solve our issues through war or not everything will be fine. And you never know i think the calender ends there because would a civilization really sit there and make enough dates to last forever? Come on be real they probably got lazy or died off before they could continue. If the poles flip(another theory) it wont be for about another 100 or more years too because it happens about every 20 thousand and we are getting close but 300 is a scientists idea of close out of 20 thousand.
